MrsM 31 Posted November 17, 2012 HI everyone! My doctor kept my drain in til tuesday next week...I need a shower but am soooo scared to get Water in it and it's so awkward! Does anyone have any tips on how to deal with it!? Thanks!
Lissa 2,631 Posted November 17, 2012 I had a lanyard that I hung around my neck and fed the drain tube through. It helped tons when I was in the shower because it supported the drain so that I could use both hands to wash my hair and bathe. If you're concerned about Water getting into your incision, you might put a bandaid over the opening on your skin. 1 MrsM reacted to this
MrsM 31 Posted November 17, 2012 Yes I am scared to death of Water getting in! It has a waterproof bandage on it currently but I can tell it has a gap on the bottom already....but I need to wash the funk off! lol
Lissa 2,631 Posted November 17, 2012 Take a shower. Put another bandaid on if it makes you feel better, but I showered with mine for 8 days with no problems. I'm allergic to latex, so no bandaids on mine at all. I couldn't swim or tub bathe until all the incisions healed completely, but I was allowed to shower and wash my hair two days after surgery. 1 MrsM reacted to this
delta_girl 931 Posted November 17, 2012 I wonder how many doctors are still using drains. The same for the horror stories about gas pain. I had neither.
MrsM 31 Posted November 17, 2012 Well mine kept the drain in because my resting heart rate was so high when I was in the hospital...It's safer if there is ANY CHANCE there's a leak so he's just playing it safe. But it's a pain!!! I am def showering today though...today is my birthday and that's my present! haha 1 Lissa reacted to this

bigtigger1010 45 Posted November 17, 2012 Water & even some soap running over it won't hurt it... if u dont have a lanyard u can kinda coil the tubing n tape across it :-) Happy showering :-) 1 MrsM reacted to this
MrsM 31 Posted November 17, 2012 Success! Thanks you guys! Used a piece of string and turned it into a lanyard and taped a bunch of plastic over the drain incision...water still got in but just to the waterproof bandage my doc put on on the outside so yay! I feel soooo much better!
