Stomach Dent And Bad Inscision Pain?

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on Wednesday. I just came home today. My recovery wasn't that great, I had a lot of pain and awful nausea for 2 days. Day three was the best so far, no nausea but the inscision pain is still bad. It feels like it pulling and when I move like it might tare? I've had a few coughing fits and the pain after that has been horrible. I also have a large dent in the middle of my stomach its not in an anscision, it's just above one. The dent hurts a lot, that's where it pulls from. It's sore and swollen to the touch. I'm wondering I'd this is normal? Or should I go back to the hospital? It's hurting me too muh to sleep tonight even with tylonol and codeine :(

I think if you are in really in that much pain then I would go to the hospital, at the very least they could give you something to ease your pain and help you get a comfortable nights sleep...Hope you feel better soon...

Sorry that u are having such a painful recovery. If the pain is not relieved at all by ur pain meds i would definitely go get checked out. It is better to be safe than sorry.

I am 3 weeks post op. I have a dent more on my right side, but still an obvious dent. My surgeon says this is completely normal. That spot has been the most tender, too. Still hurts when I get out of bed or off the couch. Dr says dent will decrease as I lose weight.

I have a dent also. At three weeks post op, its gone down some, but still remains visable. Its where the surgeon went through the muscle and removed the stomach. I still feel the muscle pain a bit because, at two weeks post op, I turned the wrong way too suddenly and pulled the muscle. A heating pad really helps.

congrats on your sleeve. sorry you are having trouble. i remember feeling the same as you about 2 weeks ago but it def does get better. if you are alot of discomfort i would call your Surgeon nurses line. if not just go back to the hospital. they should not have sent you home if you were experiencing this much pain.

as for the dent. i have one too :) i think its kinda cool lol. i hope you feel better and please call them. better to be safe than sorry :)

Thank you all! I was able to sleep a little probably from sheer exhaustion. I'm not a back sleeper so I'm sore from that too. I haven't spoken to my dr yet because I had literally just left there. I'm gonna give them a call today but I don't think there there since its Saturday. If not ill see how I feel later and wait it out before I go. I think I'm just paranoid. I feel like its because I have a large tummy and its pulling because when I put a hand under It and lift it its less painful. I wish I had a compression garment or something. Thank you everyone who has a dent also! I was worried about that! That's my main source of pain, it makes sense that that is where they cut through the muscle. I guess knowing that it helps me understand why it hurts as much as it does. Gonna take some more tylonol and finish sipping my morning Water. Thanks all!

You could try a pregnancy belly band. Some find those really helpful right out of surgery. I'm not a back sleeper either and had trouble with that too. I have to be on my right side to fall asleep. I lined pillows along my right side in bed and slowly turned onto them resting my belly and left leg on the pillows. It kept the muscle from pulling and allowed me to sleep on my side comfortably. I did that for about two weeks.

I am 10 weeks out on Monday and "my dent" is shrinking as I lose the weight! As for the discomfort, the heating pad was my BFF, helped with the gas pain and the stomach muscle discomfort. Glad you called the doc though, that is what they are there for!! Congrats

Thanks for this! I didn't even think of a belly band! Wonder where I can find one made for big people lol ill def look into that! I tried to do that With the pillows last night, some how I got them in just the right way that I was able to turn to my side and fall asleep. I still felt a bit of a tug though. I think putting them under my belly would be a great idea! Thank you! Going to be trial and error. I am feeling a bit better today I think I was just so exhausted last night I was a little erratic.

Glad to hear it goes down! I asked one of the doctors when I first noticed it and was like 'will this dent go away?' And she was like 'well your whole body is going to change, so yes' lol it's still weird to think like that. Thanks for the reply! In getting the heating pad out of the closet to use for tonight!

Most stores that sell maternity clothes should have the bands. You can also look on motherhood.com they have plus size maternity clothes so I'm sure they have larger belly bands as well.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
