Last night at our support group I asked about the hip pain. She said it is VERY common. It usually happens between a loss of 50-75 pounds. Your body is adjusting to how you move your muscles. It often causes hip, knee or lower back pain. Many people in the room said they had it too.

One gal said she would just tip over for no reason. lol The Dr she works for said her center of gravity had changed so quickly that her body was still adjusting.

The good news is that it gets better fairly quickly. Good to know!

That totally makes sense -- thanks for posting!

Omg cant believe all these posts. My right hip started killing me week 3...i am now 5wks post op. It was better once i got moving in the morning, but awful at night. Couldnt lay on it, or hardly move. It hurt from front of pelvis all the way around to my back. Went to chiro the other day, about two days later it eased up. Also started soaking in hot bath at night helped. This is bizarre!!

Omg, I just finished asking about lower back and hip pain on another page. I'm just 3 days post op...and besides feeling like a truck ran over me, my hips and lower back hurt so bad I can barely bend to sit on the toilet...ya'll all have lost weight, what's my reAson? The surgery? Really?

I doubt it's the surgery. More likely increased activity that you're not used to. After an extreme weight loss, I can see changes in posture (due to the off set of weight) causing some pain, but strengthening the core will prevent that.

Walking is great but you've got to work on your core, especially if you sit a lot.

Currently experiencing a huge amount of hip pain which started Saturday evening. It was sore but exploded today after going bowling. It was so bad I ended up in urgent care. I believe it started due to a two mile walk I did Saturday morning. I have not really been very active since surgery and it appears this walk was too much at one time. The bowling has now aggravated everything to the tenth degree.

Everyday I am understanding the importance of some form of exercise after surgery. I've read people here say it, my doctor states it but I am stubborn and have to learn everything the hard, painful way.

Yikes! Hip pain AFTER losing weight?? I already have it, was hoping to get away from it after surgery. Guess my chiropractor is going to LOVE me next year! $$$$:(

Go to a chiropractor. Omg fixed me right away. Pain meds only cover up the problem. Once you get back in alignment the pain goes away.

I've had left hip bone on bone arthritis (one of the reasons for getting sleeved), for years. Pain has been moderate to severe daily for the past two years. I walk with a limp, and now it seems even worse. I was hoping the pain would 'decrease'! I am trying to hold off on hip replacement for as long as I can, but that does not seem feasible at this point.

I'm also having the same pain in hips . It develops after having sitting in a place for too long and I feel weakness in the hips along with pain while getting up, but settles soon after walking a few steps...

My Doctor said that when we loose so much of weight so quickly it happens that along with fat some muscle is also lost.. As a remedy he suggested muscle strengthening excercises.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
