Hi Everyone!

Has anyone had pain in their hips AFTER they have lost weight? I'm 7 weeks out and 43 lbs down and my hips hurt in the morning and after sitting at work for long periods of time. The pain is reduced or goes away after a few steps, but its painful when I am still.

Just wondering if anyone else has had this happen and what the cause/cure is?

Thanks!

I'm 3 weeks out and I have this issue as well. I've been walking a mile practically every day, but I have the hip pain when I'm not walking and after sitting for long periods of time. I'm not sure why this is but it's an issue just the same.

I have that too!! I wonder why that is. I did not have it before surgery. It is worse in the evenings when I walk for a long distance during the day. I plan on asking my Dr but it sure is interesting that others have it too!

The only suggestions I can give as I have the same pain is start doing muscle strength exercises as your muscles help hold everything in place and take pressure off joints.

Last night at our support group I asked about the hip pain. She said it is VERY common. It usually happens between a loss of 50-75 pounds. Your body is adjusting to how you move your muscles. It often causes hip, knee or lower back pain. Many people in the room said they had it too.

One gal said she would just tip over for no reason. lol The Dr she works for said her center of gravity had changed so quickly that her body was still adjusting.

The good news is that it gets better fairly quickly. Good to know!

I've lost 130 and it's just now starting to happen. But I also upped my workouts recently and have a desk job. A lot of sitting can cause tight hips. I found this on Pinterest and it has really helped! I usually do #4, 6, 7, 8, 10 before and after I get on the treadmill. When I first stand up after the stretches I'm in a lot of pain but after a few minutes on the treadmill I feel really good. I also have a few strengthening exercises I learned when I was in physical therapy two years ago for a knee injury. They said strengthening my hips and quads can help the knees too. A week ago I could barely lift my leg it hurt so badly. Readjustment takes time but, in the meanwhile, try some stretches!

My left hip hurts so much I can't even lift my leg to put my socks on. Its been that way since 2 weeks after surgery its been 3 months now some days its better but most of the time it hurts to walk. The Dr gave me some streches to do but they don't seem to work. I just wonder what the heck is going on with it.

Yes along with walking at first my leg hurt a lot, since I have been walking daily about a18 min (working my way up) I have to say it helps I do have author in my hip but man is it better I get the liquid tylenol for sore throat yes sore throat. I ask the pharmists why sore throat she says its the strongest dose for adults since its hard to find liquid tylenol for adults. I will even take it on days I do not walk not everyday but I think the walking and weight loss is helping. I really had it bad when I would lay in my bed the pain literally wake me up. Hopefully this info will help keep me posted

I have pain in my right hip also! I was thinking it was because I had a hip replacement in 2010 and then the rod came loose and had to have a revision in 2011. I've been doing my exercises I got from physical therapy. I was getting scared that I would have to have ANOTHER revision, now I can hope it will just one day go away. I wake up at least 4 times a night due to pain.

I am not a dr, but I have had this problem also. So badly, I've been to the ER because I couldn't move and had to work. It's caused from the Sciatic nerve which I am guessing we irritate with either using or moving our back differently than before. Check into it with dr or google it and see if this is perhaps the issue you are experiencing

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
