Hey everyone!

My name is Marilyn and I am new to this forum. Actually, I'm technologically challenged so I am not clear on how to navigate through any of this kind of stuff (just ask my 22 yr. old daughter). LOL!

I had my VSG on 9.10.12. I am 2 months out and I'm down 44 lbs. and 20 1/2 inches!!! This site has been very helpful for me. I have had alot of questions and I have found many answers from ya'll. Thank you!

I do not have the benefit of seeing a NUT on a regular basis. My insurance does not cover any type of weightloss procedures or dr. visits. Therefore my surgery was on a cash basis. I have a certain number of visits that are included with that package and then I'm on my own. My dr. is an amazing surgeon but he is a general surgeon, therefore, he does not specialize in weight loss. I do not feel like he is giving me the same guidelines as others that I have read. He still has me at 500 calories, 50 grams of Protein and no more than 40 grams of fat. He is not concerned with my carbs at all. That seems weird to me. So, after my last visit, I decided to up my calories, my protein and start watching carbs. In addition, he has had me on a Multi-Vitamin but nothing else. After talking with a friend who has the surgery in July of this year, I started taking additional things. I had gotten to the point that I didn't have the energy to lift up my arms. Once I started incorporating the sublingual B12, I immediately felt a difference. I am fixing to add D3 and calcium citrate.

I can only eat about 4 bites at a time and my dr. says that is normal. He said in about 6 months I should be able to eat 6-8 bites then in a year I should be able to do 3-4 ounces. That should be the max. So, apparently I am right on target.

I'm looking forward to getting support and giving support with you guys! :D

Hey there! Sounds like you're doing great! Way to go!

Do you have a goal weight? Do you have another place to get NUT-like advice? I've read some really good weight loss books in my time, but none of them have been anything like this diet.

Can't wait to see you around the forum!

It's nice to meet you! I have about 200 lbs. to lose. Man...that sounds like alot when you just put it out there. But I have waited for about 15 years to have this surgery so I do not care how long it takes to get the weight off. For me, it's a marathon, not a sprint. Regarding the NUT advice, I am asking a couple of friends what their NUT says because they are having guided steps all along the way and I am also listening to my body. Everyone is different, so I think that is the main thing is for me to learn my body.

How much Protein and calories were you required to have?

What kind of exercises did you do?

My dr. says that I am released to do any type of exercise I want.

welcome to the board :)

glad you have some visits left with your NUT - since you can't see NUT that often, make sure to gather all your questions and write them out for her -

you can always ask the board questions, advice - but we don't have the degree - you/ we need the help of a professional too - we're "just" laymen :)

Dr./NUT should give you more info how much this or that you should eat, what kind of Vitamins to take - just getting good medical advice from a NUT is good/important

for me, as i got further out PO, i was able to eat more - i'm probably at my limit of 2/3 c per meal, around 900-1,000 calories per day (11 months PO)

all dr/surgeons/NUTS are different - vary with different thoughts, ideas, advice

sounds like you are doing well/ and your doc is giving you good info - down 44 lbs - 20 inches, 2 months - WooHoo

500 calories, not counting carbs now - i don't "think" those are ridiculous points for now

not counting carbs?? I've heard from some sleevers - that dr isn't big on carb counting- some dr's go with that.

you can still keep track of your carbs./food/drink via MFP or other tracker - that can only help

multi-vitamin only??? you could talk to dr about that one - taking the B12, Calcium, are good, can't hurt - but talk to the doc/or NUT concerning any doubts you have - thats why they are there ^_^

don't/shouldn't compare your dr orders to orders you've heard about on the board from other sleevers - both sets of dr.s are right for them, just shouldn't get mixed signals from different people - will get to confusing, should follow one person IMO

also don't compare your weight loss, or how long it takes you to lose - with any other sleevers results

your dr. sounds ok to me???

always ok to question about stuff that doesn't sit well with you - better to ask a question - he/and NUT should be able to help you out

not being a bariatric surgeon/expert, IMO he still sounds good

you didn't mention complication you had with the surgery, or after - so hopefully things went pretty well? limitted gas, vomitting, tiredness

good luck with all

see you around the neighborhood

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
