I just looked up my policy information online and it says the following about any type of weight loss related procedures. I'm at a 47 bmi and I have type 2 diabetes, so from my understanding I *think* it would be covered, but I'm not sure. Any thoughts on this?

Photodiva, what this says is that you must have a diagnosis of Morbid Obesity for any treatment to be covered. With a BMI of 47 you absolutely qualify medically, so just be sure all your doctors use the appropriate diagnosis code when submitting claims for payment.

Alexandra have you heard anything else about the bcbs of new jersey plan I mean do you know of anyone who has been aproved? I know they cover it because I've called them

All it says to me is - weight reduction isn't considered medically necessary treatment for MO. As in, if they cover "weight reduction" procedures they would cover things like Weight Watchers, but not Lap-Band. And if they do not cover "weight reduction", they would not cover Weight Watchers, but may cover Lap-Band (depending on what it says about bariatrics).

Ya they said they cover lap band surgery because I was specific when asking and they said yes if you can get it aproved we cover it 100 percent but I will let you guys know soon, actually I'm going to make a few calls today!
