I am 9 days postop. Is it ok for me to just sip Gatorade all day and nothing else? I tolerare it well. I haven't started the complete chewable vitamins as I wasn't sure how they would sit with my new, sensitive stomach. I'm thinking I will start them today? Any input would be great everyone.

Have you chatted with your dietitian? I have found diet progression is vastly different from dr to dr. At 9 days post op, I was on full liquids. My dietitian recommended that for the first week try to get 28oz of fluids/day and worry about Protein later. But at 9 days post op, I was able to tolerate sips of Protein shakes. Some people progress at different rates. I would be concerned about dehydration, so if you have one available call your dietitian. Also if you are looking for a savory taste that has Protein , powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury makes a chicken flavored Soup that is pretty good. 20 grams of protein for 8 oz serving. But I would call and ask your dietitian if its ok to sip on Gatorade solely at this point.

You can purchase Unjury on line at www.unjury.com . It is a clear, chicken flavored broth Protein whey powder..no noodles..nice and savory..you'll get your protein and fluids at the same time. I have not seen Unjury available for purchase at a retail store, only online. I also like EAS carb advantage shakes..they are sweet though. So if you are looking for a savory option, I would go with Unjury. They also have a protein cheese sauce that isn't bad either and you can order a sample pack to try out their different flavors of shakes and Soup so you aren't out a lot of money for something you may or may not like. They will also send you recipes for their shakes.

Btw..they will try to sell you their vitamins...and in my humble opinion..they are garbage! I take two Flintstones Complete per day with no Vitamin deficiencies. They are tasty, smaller, more economical, and don't make me vomit! Now as far as Calcium , I take the Bariatric Advantage calcium citrate Chews. That is the only product from Bariatric Advantage I like. Everything else to me is garbage. Six chews per day give you the calcium you need, they taste great, and are sugar free! These are pricey, but worth it to me!

I found the you can get calcium chews at costco that are sugar free for only 12 bucks it is 180 count, and just as similar to Bariatric Advantage for so much cheaper! Oh and with Costco ones you only need to take 3 a day not 6.

For me at 9 days out I was getting the lectures for not getting my 70 grams of Protein in. I suppose if you're putting Protein Powder in the gatorade, it's all good (as long as it's sugar free). One of the things that's going to help you heal and protect you as you lose weight is getting the Protein in, so it's pretty important.

If you're using bariatric Vitamins, they should be good to take from the start, as they're formulated for post surgery.

I'm only taking 1 Bariatric Advantage chew a day. Why so many? Just curious :)

Also, make sure any Calcium you take is calcium citrate. There is a difference.

I was told I need 1500 mg of Calcium per day...each chew is 250mg ..as I understand..the body can only in theory absorb 500 mg of calcium at one time in a two hour stint therefore I take 2 calcium chews every two hours during the day for maximum absorption of the calcium so it will be beneficial.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
