This is knowledge I have gained from here, reading long term members posts and many questions about it. I am by no means an expert, but my take on it is that since the stretchy part of your stomach is removed it is pretty difficult to significantly stretch your stomach. That doesn't mean impossible, but you would have to be eating large quantities often.

One account of stretching came from a woman who was eating constantly. She would eat until she couldn't and then wait half an hour and then do the same thing again. If you have eating behaviors like this, or attempt to return to your previous eating quantities, it is possible to stretch your stomach some.

I can tell you that I have eaten til I was full, I have eaten until I was overfull. I still have head hunger and struggle with food issues. But those times have been less than I can count on one hand, and I still have great restriction. I would say that as long as you are listening to your body and not intentionally pushing it, that you are not at risk for stretching aside from the normal small amount that comes from just regular eating.

I believe they are talking about the 5 day pouch test. www.5daypouchtest.com I read how it gets the restriction back to your pouch.

It's similar but more sleeve specific :) from everything I've gathered on here the pouch test is for a rny pouch. But boot camp is aimed to get back some restriction

Your stomach can and will stretch. It's a muscle. However it wouldn't happen over a short time of a vacation. You gained weight from bad food choices not from stomach size.

Well, What I know is that I can eat much more now than I could when my I reached the goal weight. I did see the images of my tests and the stomach was enlarged. As for poor food choices, yes Occasionally I do, but my problem was always the overeating and that is why I had surgery. If I had that level of control I would not have needed the surgery in the first place.

Now it is damage control time. Try to go back to goal weight, try to regain some restriction, etc. I will check the boot camp. Thanks everyone.

If your stomach has stretched back to its original size, then I would be concerned that perhaps your surgeon removed the wrong portion of your stomach. One of the benefits of modern VSG is that they have learned to remove the "stretchy" part and leave the muscle, which is very difficult to stretch. Yes, there will be some difference in the amount you are able to eat at one month, versus six months and even one year, but it should not be like it was prior to surgery. At several years out, it is still difficult for me to eat very much, and believe me, I have definitely tested my sleeve's limits. Now, it may also depend on what you are eating. If you are eating slider foods like ice cream and chips, yep, you can put a lot of that away and it will certainly have a negative effect on your weight loss. But, if you continue to do your best and remember the Protein first rules, you should be fine.

I tried to find the boot camp but I only found an exercise program. an someone link it to us? Is it the same as the pouch test?

Last Summer I had an emergency out of the country that required an endoscopy. After the exams they told me that my stomach was back to normal size. I was devastated. It was only after 3 weeks of eating more food during a vacation. They also told me a few cases of people who had surgery twice and the stomach still stretched' date=' :-([/quote']

That is not good. How much more food per meal did you eat? For example, if i eat 4-5 oz of Protein now instead of 3-4 oz previously, will i run into stretch concerns? I know that the issues I used to have with eating 4-5 oz no longer exist.

I was eating a lot. I was even massaging my stomach due to being in pain and overfull so to get to eat a bit more. I know it was not healthy... I knew I was going to gain some weight... However I thought I would loose the weight easily after vacation but the fact is that I lost control again and continued to gain weight. I will try the boot camp and hopefully it will help.

I do not want to scare anyone, i just wanted to share my negative experience so other people may learn from that. These 13 extra pounds are being hard to loose.

Not easy at all. No such thing has been documented on 5-year studies.

From LapSF/Dr. Criangle: The removed section of the stomach is actually the portion that stretches the most. The long vertical tube shaped stomach that remains is the portion least likely to expand over time and it creates significant resistance to volumes of food.

Those 2 links that you posted is what I believe to be true. I also believe that over time the stomach empties faster, which makes it possible to eat more soon after completing a meal. I guess the moral of the story would be to be kind to your sleeve and not over do it when it comes to eating.

      Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

        As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

        Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

      Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life.
