Anxiety Centering In The Stomach--2 Years Out

Recommended Posts

I've had this for years. WLS has actually improved it some.

I have been a bit nervous about how my surgery will affect my anxiety, I keep it pretty much at bay with my meds and the only times it flares even mildly are times I haven't eaten regularly or kept to a regular sleep schedule. Two of my meds are time released and I've read such varying comments from everyone about my meds, but I took one of each of the 4 to my last surgeon's visit and he didn't seem to think I would have an issue with taking them as long as I took them one at a time and spaced a bit apart. I'm still nervous about it though.

Kaj, It's OK to be nervous. I have to tell you that this surgery is one of the best things I ever did for myself in my whole life. It gave me back my health. I didn't have anxiety issues until I was two years past surgery, and still do. My doc has tried different anti-depressants, and an anxiety drug. Though my angst is better, it is still pretty bad sometimes. It didn't start until I sort of had some PTSD from a terrible job I had.

My only regret about my gastric sleeve is that I didn't do it when I was much younger--I was 58 before I could have it done. But better late than never! I wish you the very best in your new journey, and way of life!

Well considering I am pushing 61, it is pretty much now or never for me. :/

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
