Hello from Kentucky

Hi there:

I've been reading the post on Dr Argotte. I have been seeing him and so far have done most all of the pre-op requirements (still waiting on the head-shrink consult and dietary visit, and EGD). Other than that, I think I'm a go......

Two friends of mine had surgery with Argotte and really liked him. They seem to be doing well.

Not sure when mine will be, but I think they are hurrying to get me in before the end of the year. I have Federal BCBS and they seem to think approval will come quickly. I'm not so sure. I live about 45 min north of Paducah in Marion, IL.

Wishing you well and hope things go well for you. My daughter works there on the 4th floor. I love my band and had a wonderful surgeon. He'd done over 7000 at the time and proctored most surgeons here in the states so they are all very well trained.

You will do great. I was scheduled 2 weeks from the day I called so it is quick but I just paid cash so that made things go faster.

You and I are in the same boat. I have no clue how to even get started but I am excited to be going through the journey. My doctor is Khalili with Ceder Sinai in Los Angeles, Ca which I am totally comfortable with. I have done all that is asked of me but I am struggling with the smoking aspect which I have to do. Does anyone have suggestions?

Hello justmel1957! My surgery was with Dr. Argotte on Dec. 26th, this past Christmas. I have lost 106 pounds so far, and I think he is a great dr. I am usually at the support group meetings, and we have lots of fun there. You should come to our Christmas Party on Tue, Dec. 4th at 6:00 p.m. It'll be a blast! Good luck to you, let us know how it goes.

You'll do great! My biggest surprise is how slowly I lost it. I was a "turtle" but after 1 1/2 years I went from size 22 to size 10's now! It's a long journey but well worth it! Just remember, one day at a time.:rolleyes2:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
