I Want To Be Normal!

Recommended Posts

So I feel crazy have the time. I'm always thinking about food and planning a meal and calories and Protein. I think the stress of all this is causing me to not lose weigh! Half the time I'm scared to eat. When I don't see change on the scale I get depressed and I am driving my husband crazy. I just to be normal again!????(fighting back tears)

You will be your "new normal" soon.. It's very important to start changing habits and planning early out.. so as you progress it will become easier and a part of your normal routine.. Optimize your time.. Try not to stress out too much... it is counterproductive... Take 1 or 2 days a week and plan for a few days... Then you will kind of know what foods work for your body and what you need to avoid.. You will also know how much of something is enough (protein, veggies, etc.).... Take it one day at a time.. Breath and ROCK your sleeve!!! Let me know if I can assist you or answer any questions for you...

Funny thing you go from feeling "abnormal" as a fatty to losing weight to suddenly being "abnormal" as a thin person.

I just sat in a meeting where they were passing around donuts, I passed explaining that I hadn't eaten one in over 2 years. They laughed at me in derision that I was denying myself something wonderful and how they themselves cannot do without them. I just sat there looking at them, all with pot bellies and two or more chins, some I know have diabetes and other health issues. *I* was the normal one NOT them. It's all the perspective.

Give yourself time:) "normal" is a learned behavior I think. My normal for last 10 years is wearing stretch pants and hoodies, avoiding bathing suit and pictures, and having a evening snack in front of the tv after the kids go to bed. Is that normal, or my normal? My date is dec 3 and I often worry about what life will be like after... What will my normal be? Will I mourn the loss if my

Old normal? I think I am sick of my normal. It won't be easy but I can't wait for my new normal to be my normal lol. Good luck, we all need it:)

When was your surgery?

It is pretty normal to feel abbynormal (Young Frankenstein reference here!) for awhile. I feel pretty normal most of the time these days, but in the early weeks I certainly did not.

Don't become obsessed with the scale. In the end, you lose weight week to week or month to month... the day to day has alot of variation that just don't matter!

I was sleeved in April and try not to stress about the scale but it is easier said than done. I just feel depressed a lot lately and frustrated with no weight loss. I don't want to think about food or calories or anything anymore

Don't worry, your not done losing weight yet. Switch up your calories and keep it low carb for a while. Go back to basics of Proteins and greens and you will burn the fat in your body.........What was your starting weight and what is your current weight?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
