Not Losing 8 Months From Surgery

Recommended Posts

I had surgery on 3/21/2012 and, as of today, I am down 110 lbs.

However, I haven't really lost any weight in the last 7 weeks. :(

I have about 40 more to lose and am trying to keep myself from being frustrated.

I still log all my food each and every day on FatSecret.com and keep to a 900-1000 calories a day with 80+ grams of Protein and no more than 40 carbs. I drink my Water and walk about 3 miles a day.

Any suggestions or confirmation that this is normal?

Thanks!

Deann

Sounds like a plateau... Have you tried mixing up your workout routine?

Well, I'm sure being so close to goal that the pounds are going to be a lot harder to shed. What about your non-weight measurements over the last 7 weeks? Are you losing inches?

Try increasing your calories. I know it sounds crazy but it works. If your body has acclimated to the 1000 calories a day it may need a bit more fuel to kick in. This has been recommended by my nutrionist to several people and it works. Just try increasing your calories to about 1200 a day and see if that gets the party moving.

B/C you are doing so much more exercise, etc. your body may need the caloric boost to realize it will not starve to death if it lets go of the excessive weight.

Good Luck and keep us posted on your progress!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
