Pre Op..some Concerns

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone..I'm 29 and should be getting the surgery in about 3 months but have some concerns. I work as a receptionist and a client of mine who was 400 lbs is 2 months post op and has maybe only lost 20ish pounds.. This Is the surgery I was mainly considering and now I have concerns.. I just want to do it right and finally be happy and healthy..

I wouldn't be necessarily be overconcerned, because I think everybody is different - in that they lose at different rates, and comply or don't comply with the lifestyle changes to different degrees. If your client happened to have gotten the Lap Band, I've also heard that it is just unsuccessful for some patients right from the get-go. I'm still pre-op, so I can't tell you about 'my' own experience....but from all the research and doctor's visits - this is my best guess! :)

I don't see what your concerns are. Can you list them out?

Lol.. My concern was I know a 400 lb man that only lost 20 pounds in two months and overall just doesn't seem to be doing well. I want everythig to work and I want to be successful in losing weight but wanted some reassurance that the sleeve has in fact worked for some people

Every single person here is a success :) just start reading profiles and threads and you will feel better!!

Best of luck on your journey...

Also, twenty pounds in two months is a good loss!! It's a journey not a race :)

I totally understand...it is hard and I'm glad you found this site :)

Lots of support here...I am/was a food addict. I ate for every reason under the sun not just for hunger. I feared this surgery wouldn't work for me because I ate even when I didn't feel hungry. But here I am 75 lbs lighter in 6 months :) not to mention my improved health.

I believe you will be a great success!!

Aww that's amazing I'm so happy for you!! Yeah I actually looked at a chocolate Easter bunny I still have and I actualy had a panic attack and was sobbing..food has been there for me consistently for so long that to give it up scared me to death. But I see what my 'friend' has done to me and I'm ready to change

Exactly, that's my thoughts too about my "friend"

It is definitely easier after the surgery, its mostly my mind and emotions needing food.< /p>

Before surgery you are battling real hunger and mind/emotions.

The sleeve stops me now when my mind wins and I start to eat...I could never have succeeded without the surgery. Its like having an extra soldier with you, when your at war.

:)

If I can chime in...idk if there is research or real evidence if this or not, but...whenever I've done a diet before, my body always fights me the 1st month or two (or 3....lol) but if I stay consistent, after the 2-3 month hump, the weight really starts moving. My sister also was over 400lb when she had her RNY & the 1st month lost 8#, by 2nd month, only 25# down....now she's 3 years out & 240# lighter. (& had a baby in the middle!) I'm sure that could be the issue with your client too....take heart. You'll know exactly what to do... :}
