Those With Diabetes...i Need Help

Recommended Posts

Ive recently been having palpitations. Sometimes they last all day. Other times they are sporadic and i only get a few a day. My dr did some heart tests all checked out fine.

The last three weeks or so ive been waking up at 3am and cant sleep. I pushed it off as stress from all this preop stuff. But now after reading stuff online im wondering if i am beginning to show signs of diabetes.

I had a fasting blood test on 11/1 through my work and my blood sugar was 104. Not terrible and within the normal range. But still kinds high.

Then after readinf a few things online last night it said often people whos blood sugar drops at night usually happens aroubd 3am. Which wakes them up. Then when they actually wake up your sugar is kinda high fro.offsetting the high.

So like clock work again i awoke at 3am this morning. I didnt think to check my sugar then. But when i got up at 530 i did take it and it was 122. The last time i ate was 7pm the night before.

I dont know if ive given enough info but could i have the onset of diabetes? My surgery is 12/10 and i dont know if i should go to the dr to talk about this?

I gave up soda, most things sugary and caffeine almost 4 weeks ago. I dont know if that change is throwing off my body or what.

Any help would be awesome!!!

TIA!

First and foremost, I'd recommend seeing your PCP about this.

Having said that, here's my $0.02:

I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes around 3 years ago. The threshold for that is fasting Blood Glucose (BG) >150 twice. When I was diagnosed, he confirmed one or two things that were happening. The one I remember most as that high BG makes you really thirsty. So, that's one thing to be aware of.

I've not heard of crashing in the middle of the night. One course of treatment is related to liver function; the liver secretes something (sugar?) that sustains your BG levels over night as you sleep. That treatment slows that liver secretion process. I forget the medicine... it made me sick and didn't stay on it for long. My point is, if Diabetes is your issue, it seems unlikely that your BG would crash in your sleep.

For me, I actually found myself battling to keep my BG high enough; I would easily crash between Breakfast and lunch if I didn't get a good enough Breakfast. The result was feeling very jittery. I'm not sure if what I describe as jittery is the same as what you describe as palpitations.

The times I test, to give me the best, most realistic results are fasting/before breakfast, and 2 hours after starting a meal. If you start eating at 7:00 AM, regarless of when you finish, test at 9:00 AM. That will give you a good indication of how your body is handling the sugars.

I found that, not avoiding carbs, but rather try to focus on "good carbs" such as fresh fruits, rather than breads and pastas helped.

Soon, you'll be in your pre-op liquid diet, and sugar will not likely be an issue fore you at that point.

I've been type one for 16 years so its a little different for me because I am insulin resistant. I had blood sugars that were in the 300's and no other symptoms. Definitely see your doc about this. The sleeve has saved me, I must say. I have normal to perfect sugars now and take 7-10 units of insulin opposed to 60 units daily with high sugars and bad eating habits.

Hello well when they ran test on my level was 125 and they told me I was type 2 diabetic and put me on meds however that sounds more like Anxiety Attacks because I only have palpitations when I am anxious and have an attack!!! However at 122 you should talk to your Doctor to see if maybe they need to run the test for Diabetes!!! Good Luck

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
