Not Much Weight Loss

Recommended Posts

I'm 3 weeks post op and I think I've lost about 9lbs (lost in the first week) I lost 18 on the pre-op diet. I know it's a big adjustment for my body but I see so many posting about losing 20lbs the first couple Of weeks and wonder what is wrong with me.

I'm thinking it could be that I haven't eaten enough or got enough Protein the first couple of weeks. Anyone else experience this or have a theory? Thanks!

Not to be mean, but the best theory is NOT to compare yourself to others. That's just not the way to go about handling your 'new life.' Nobody else lives in your body but YOU. Your weight loss is great and when would you ever have lost that much in such a short time?

Please don't compare yourself to others. That's just asking to be depressed. :-)

Like Doxie said try not to compare yourself to others. I know it's hard believe me I catch myself doing it, but we are all different and our bodies will react and lose differently. Be proud of the weight you have lost, and looked forward to healthier new you!! Congratulations keep us posted! I am here if you have any questions.

Thanks, CBlouis! I know that we are all different and lose weight at a different pace. I guess I am just worried that I am doing something wrong. I know it isn't eating TOO much or too many calories. I'm afraid that it's just not getting enough Protein. Ive been doing much better this week and after I posted this thread this morning I got on the scales and lost 3lbs. Yay!

Lolly...you are also due for your first stall (the dreaded 3 week stall). I think pretty much all of us had that in some form. So you may be in that. Just stick to what you're supposed to be doing and you'll be fine. Good luck!

I'm 3 weeks out and have only lost 5 lbs since surgery so you're actually doing better than I am.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
