I am pretty sure this is going to sound weird but I have to ask. The past few nights I wake up after about three hours sleep and I am wide awake. Once I wake up I can't seem to fall back asleep because my arms feel weak. For some reason I have to roll my wrists every minute or so. I know it sounds crazy but it won't let me fall back to sleep. Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

I'm waking up about every 4 hours or so. My problem is my back hurts from the constant pressure of not being able to turn on my side while sleeping. So I have to get up and move around some and by that time I'm awake. I wonder how many days post op we feel ok enough to sleep on our side?

It took me about 4-5 days. And when i did go on my side i'd prop/support my belly with a small pillow so gravity didn't pull it down.

When were you sleeved? Remember, during surgery they strap down your arms and wrists so they could be a bit sore. And weird sleep patterns are pretty similar after surgery. Try melatonin or call your doc for sleeping pills.

I was sleeved on nov 6th. So I am one week 2 days out. I do feel a slight weakness in my arms during the day too. But it is bad at night. Keeps me awake. Last night I finally took some pain meds and some melatonin and was finally able to fall asleep.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
