Food Addiction?

Recommended Posts

I'm 1 week post op and so far this has been a very hard wk. The hardest thing for me is watching TV! I see these food commercials and I go through an emotional roller coaster. I know I'm not physically hungry but I'm so head hungry! Is this my food addiction or me breaking habits? I feel broken

I am almost 2 weeks out, and I can't agree more about the food commercials!! I call it 'food porn', because that's really what it is. We all know nothing at Applebees actually looks that good! We know Red Lobsters Lobster tails aren't really that big! I have gotten into the habit of using my DVR more. I just fast forward through all commercials, so I don't have to look at them! I know it's head hunger, I also know for myself I couldn't have possibly gotten this big if I didn't have a food addiction. I am stead fast to doing this, and I will prevail! Good luck to you! I also find it helps if I am watching something particularly juicy, like a Carls Jr. commercial, I take a sip of my Water, and soon enough the commercial is gone and I can realize I am doing good by getting my fliuds in! Good luck, you can beat the Food Porn Addiction!!

I know that to be successful myself I will need to do something more. Either Overeaters Anonymous, some type of counseling, or support group. This issue with weight I believe, is more than a physical difficulty.

Yes, I'm currently looking for a support group. Today was a good day, I was able to get some good Soup down and I felt satisfied. Oh and believe me I'm recording everything on my DVR...lol

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
