Week 4 And Ended In The Hospital :(

Recommended Posts

Hi- I have been having a lot of issues since this surgery. First week was hell. I've never been able to get all the Protein and liquid in. Now in my 4th week, I ended up in the hospital for 7 nights! Nothing surgically wrong with my sleeve but I cannot keep anything down. Constantly throwing up. The doctor is baffled. Basically they came to the conclusion that my esophagus is spasming and they put me on meds. Got out of the hospital on Monday and still not feeling 100%. I'm regretting this surgery big time. I just want to feel normal! I hate this!!! When will this all get better? Please help!

How dreadful for you to have to go through all this, Hopeful77. Do the doctors think they have the spasming of your esophogus under control? Can you keep liquids down now? I'll keep my fingers crossed that you'll be doing so much better in the next day or two! And when the dust finally settles, I'll bet you'll be bragging about all the weight you've lost! Keep trying to be optimistic, and get to the other side of these awful problems. We're rooting for you!

Thank you both for the replies. You get to a point where no one around you understands what you are going through and thank god for this site. The spasms are sort of under control. The meds are helping but I have been getting sick and throwing up intermittently. I have missed so much work for this issue....I am so glad I have a manager that is understanding. Everyone says it will get better, so that's what I have to keep remembering. I'm hoping for the moment when all is better and I feel like I can get through my days without sadness & regret.

Just think about how you would be feeling if you never had the surgery, stayed at your old BMI and felt that there was no light at the end of the tunnel? This is a temporary set back, you can overcome it and move on. Sleevers tend to have difficulty with nausea at first, some a littlthe longer as I understand it. My Doc puts his patients on Omeprazole (Levsin) three times/day as well as Prevacid once a day for this very reason. Seems to work well for me. I still occasionally get nauseated, but it is not severe and passes quickly and I am 4 weeks postop. Good luck, you still did the right thing.

You are sure there is no leak causing the spasms? Really watch your breathing carefully. My spasms (caused by a leak) caused my plural sac to fill with Fluid, crushing my lungs. I totally get what it's like to feel like crap four weeks out! I'm sorry you are in this boat.

I still regret the surgery, despite the weight loss. The pain and suffering wasn't worth it to me. I hope you won't experience that level of difficulty, but I just wanted to share that I "get" where you are coming from. Totally!

Take care please, and be careful!

Hi- I'm on the same meds right now. I know you are right...just have to wait and see what happens. I just never thought it would be this hard. Thank you for your reply. I just at the moment am scared and don't see the light at the end of the tunnel just yet but am hopeful :)

Hi- I am so sorry you had to go through so many issues, but it also lets me know that I'm not alone...there's is another person who knows what I'm going through. I am positive that there are no leaks. When I was in the hospital last week they checked me out thoroughly. I really hope I can get through this period and one day not regret it but right now I do and I'm scared.

I still regret it :( I'm alive, and heck I'm losing weight, but there is long term damage for me to contend with for a few years which kind of peeves me off.

You're not alone. There are many of us out here. I felt very alone when I was going through my struggles and the one thing that helped me most was to come here daily and journal my situation (it's no longer on line because it caused the doctor such stress). The support that the folks here gave me made me stronger. That said...I am a VERY TOUGH woman. I have dealt with huge personal tragedy and I am always a rock on the outside (I hide the rest) so no one recognized the blabbering idiot that was me in the hospital. I was in terrible pain, as you have been, and while someone who hasn't been down the road might say a month is just a bump or isn't bad...let me tell you, every day you get more broken down until you start begging for anesthesia when they come to help you to the bathroom. :) (ok I didn't do that but I did ask for it for a blood draw LOL) It's hard to be physically pushed past your limits so I read stories like yours and just want to try to lift you up a bit.

I hope you are getting near the light at the end of the tunnel. One thing I didn't do, and you (any anyone else suffering issues needs to do) is listen to your instinct. If this goes on much longer you'll be in bad shape, so don't let it. I'd agree on the J tube being a last resort (I preferred TPS frankly) but take the step if you have to.

Keep in touch and if you need to scream, do it online or they might call in the psyc docs (ok maybe that was just in my case) :o

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
