Help! No Appetite-Week 5

Recommended Posts

Was cleared to eat anything-but to avoid bread, at only 5 weeks post-op. I can only tolerate such a small amount of pureed food, when I eat chicken I feel like an elephant is sitting on my chest. Now I'm becoming afraid to eat! I'm still drinking 2 shakes a day (have to!) for 60 grams Protein, but meals are not enjoyable! I can only tell when I'm full, when I'm too full. I don't get sick, but feel like I could. Even One egg is too much! I have to stop when I've eaten about 75% or risk the elephant feeling! I'm happy to be fading away, but I worry that it will be too fast and I'll also age faster, too!  I do get all my Vitamins in, plus the protein and about 32 oz. Water so I'm ok nutrient-wise. Does this phase pass? Is this unusual? 

I am four weeks out and in the same place as you. I am scared at how little I can eat, one oz of ground turkey and I was feeling horrible, drooling and foaming. I also have no appetite...please let us know if this is it or it gets better?

Yes it gets better but make sure you eat slowly, little bits at a time. Small bowls, measure out your food small forks/spoons.

Well, I just had some of last nights leftovers: about 2-1/2 oz chicken, a tbl. mashed potatoes, a tsp. of corn and a tbl. of pureed mango (Baby food) I took my time, chewing really well, small bites. I def. ate more than last night. I don't have the elephant on my chest feeling but still feel very full and am belching like I ate a Thanksgiving dinner!

Well, this is normal. just east tiny amounts, slowly...

This is the whole idea, no appetite, small portions. It does get easier down the road.

I feel better today too. Just can't get the hang of small bites, small sips, and stretching meals out to 25 minutes. I think I always ate faster then Elmer whose picture is to your left. If I slow down I feel better.

I love Elmer! I know what your saying! Old habbits (and apparently there are a lot more ofthem than I thought! Lol!) are verrry hard to break! I'm used to eating like there's a gun to my head! Now I have to remember that gun will be in my stomach if I don't eat smaller and slower!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
