Ladies, How Do You Feel About Your Looks?

Recommended Posts

How well my body has "shaped up" after losing over 120# has exceeded my expectations.... I catch a reflection in a storefront window and still do a double take "who is that good looking woman?" I have the dreaded apple shape, but am amazed that I have a defined waist and that I don't have so much extra skin that it is a big problem.

However, I am very bothered by how my face looks. I am 48, but don't have a lot of wrinkles or anything - blessed with good skin and all. Even so, I see my face and am just so disappointed. In fact, the other day it kind of weirded me out - like who the hell is that person looking back at me?

Here is my theory about why I feel this way. The last time i was this weight I was in my 20s and I was pretty damn cute. I think so many years of morbid obesity sort of made me block out seeing myself. I never consciously thought that I would look like a 23 year old again, actually I never thought about it at all.... but I am guessing that is why I am disappointed. The harsh reality of being pretty seriously middle aged now that i am finally able to shed the fatsuit.

Am I the only one?

You are not the only one.... I avoided looking in the mirror at my face for 20 years.......Now I look at my face and I see jowls.LOL So I am beginning to think about getting a face lift soon. :)

For me at 47 I feel absolutly fabulous. I realize that I will not look like I did when I was 20 or 25 and that is OK because I am closer to 50 than 20. I appreciate every wrinkle and don't care when the others come along. To me they are a sign of wisdom and growth, I wouldn't change my age for anything.

For me, it's my body more than my face right now. When I weighed 178 last, my muscle tone (and so body shape) was very different. My abdomen just feels wrecked to me between the loose skin and stretch marks.< /p>

The one part of my face that irks me is the little bit of waddle (sp? loose skin under the chin?) I seem to be sporting. I hope that tightens up!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
