Showering With Glue?

Recommended Posts

I didn't get the best discharge instructions and I was so ready to go home that I forgot to ask, so hopefully someone here was closed with Dermabond glue. When can I shower? How do I clean the incisions? Any advice? Thanks!!!

Shower normally, wash, don't scrub those areas. Pat dry. Don't clean your incisions, just leave them alone. After a while the glue will begin to slowly peel away from the skin around the edges. I would trim these with a tiny pair of scissors. Don't pull on the glue to try to get it to come off faster. It will eventually shed. At that point, if your incisions are red, you may want to add a little bit of antibacterial salve. The doctor didn't tell me to do that, but I have found that it helps. It is possible that there will be a very small amount of drainage. Just keep the area clean and dry.

I was thinking the same question. I called my medical team told me 1. I can wash however don't wash over them like normal be gentile and don't just stand there is let the Water hit. 2. The glue will peel off slowly if I could figure out how to take a pic I would show u how mines look. 3. Use a WHITE soap they stressed this to me.

The first day home, I was told to stand with my back to the shower only, and then to shower mostly normally without scrubbing at the incisions.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
