Diabetics & Protein ?'s, Please Help

Recommended Posts

I am in the beginning of my journey and haven't yet met with the surgeon for my consultant but was told today that having this surgery isn't going to be good for me because I'm diabetic and diabetic's "CAN'T" eat this much Protein because it is too hard on my liver and kidney's. I asked this person if they were in the medical profession and they said no, but that was what the Dr's told her sister when she wanted to get the surgery and she never had the surgery :{ (I'm not sure if she was going to get the bypass or the sleeve) and the funny thing to me is I live in a small town that doesn't have all the stores you all talk about on here and went to the grocery store and just happened to walk down the Natural foods isle (which is brand new in our store) and I found the PB2 that I've been seeing mentioned on here a lot, so I was reading the label and she walked up and just started talking to me.

For the diabetic's out there, have any of you been told to be careful of too much Protein or introducing the protein into your diet slowly? Until now I have never paid any attention to how much Protein I'm eating. I only have watch the sugar, carbs & sodium. Any advise or words of wisdom would be awesome. Thanks in advance for taking the time to read and respond :}

I have diabetes and was sleeved on March 18. My family doctor and endoc. both felt that this was a wonderful thing for me to do. It should not affect your liver or kidneys if they are functioning normally according to your bloodwork. My diabetic meds have been reduced and I have been told by doctors that the more weight you lose, the odds are in my favor to totally eliminate all diabetic meds. Hope all goes well!

      Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

      The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
