Alcoholic beverages for Lap Banders?

Recommended Posts

HI all! I just wanted to know what are the best choices for us to drink at social events? I wanted to know if Lite Beer, or vodka tonic is ok.

Are you avoiding carbonated beverages? If so, then those choices are both out. Personally, if I want a drink I stick with a glass or two of wine (red is better than white, because of anti-oxidants), or a pomegranet martini. Then, even though you're adding a few extra "liquid" calories for the day, at least you're getting some health benefits, too!

I went out with my husband and I had two drinks. Before I could get home I was PBing. this was two mon. after my band. So now I only have red or white wine. The hard stuff is to much for me now.

A lot of my family don't know that I have the band, so I just tell them that I am drinking lite.

I am able to drink anything although my preference is wine or beer. Each person is different and I suggest that you try a beer at home first, that way you will know if you might have a problem while out with a group.

I have the occasional margarita when we go out to eat mexican food. We order drinks, and then wait a bit to order dinner, I cannot eat and drink at the same time...so I have a drink, or at least part of it, then order my food, and have had no problem with it. Now that being said, this restaurant we go to is not known for mixing strong drinks, so that may help!!

I have also sipped at a Fuzzy Navel, and had no problem...I would avoid carbonation, and try something very slowly, maybe at home first in case it doesn't agree with you.

Good Luck!

Kat

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
