Anyone Here In Washington?

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved at Puget Sound Surgical Center in Edmonds.

I live in Capitol Hill M-F and Port Orchard on the weekends.

It would be cool to have some kind of gathering!

This is the first time I've seen Kitsap here! I grew up in Port Orchard and am now in Silverdale. Usually when I tell someone I'm from Kitsap (oh, like the nurse at NWWLS during my 1 mo. post op...), they ask me where that is and then say something ridiculous like "Oh, that's what's on the other side of the bridge!" or "Is that where the ferry goes? I've never been over there." Nothing to say but wow...

Phoenix (aka Mrs Fiddleman!) - I would love it i we could get together and I really appreciate you offering to host. If you could try again say early October I suspect alot more people could make it.

I don't know if people are interested.... but my plastics are scheduled for Oct 14. As a pre-plastics patient I would be very willing to talk to people about that.

Good luck to you! My husband and I are sleeved and live in the south end!

Hi Lorrieanne1, where were you and your husband sleeved? I am a little nervous, getting ready to pay my deposit and set my date. My husband is a big support and behind me 100%.

Sleeved at PSSC in Edmonds - Dr. Landerholm. They were wonderful to work with. I'm so happy you have a good support system because it is so very important! I'm sure it will all go well!

Crowd-sourcing: Hey Everyone, Kay Feather aka primal and I started a WLS support group out of what we thought was a real need in the community for face-to-face support and the opportunity to put faces to names, profile pics and avatars. It has met a few times on the Northend/Bothell area. The attendance has been hit-or miss since its inception last November. I'm wanting to throw out there a couple of questions and hoping to get some responses. Do you need face-to-face support beyond what is offered at your care facility? What would increase or decrease the chance of you attending? If you like the idea of a meet-up in what forum (cafe, church, restaurant etc), location (north, south, east, central), what topics would you like to see addressed or appeals most? Would you be interested in events like hikes or races? Or are you happy with on-line support and support from your surgery facility's . Thanks everyone for your feedback in advance! :)

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
