Buddy In Ohio

Recommended Posts

My surgery is at 10:00 in the morning at OSU medical center. I'm excited but also getting nervous. Eeek! I'm excited for the changes that are about to happen. I have Aetna and was approved with a BMi of 39.95 with no problems.

Mel, hope you are doing well. Call me when you are up to it!

Sleeved yesterday morning at OSU. I'm feeling pretty good. Started stage 1 this evening. So far so good. They have done a good job keeping my pain meds going. I have walked a little. My oxygen is still a little low but the Dr. Isn't too concerned. I'll keep everyone posted on my progress.

I'm doing good. Still a little sore, but the pain isn't too bad. I don have much energy, but the Dr. Said that is normal.

Angel...very interesting that you're in Huron too! Are you on Facebook or anything?? Do I know you? lol. Congrats on having such an easy time getting your insurance to approve it! How are you feeling? I sent my request in to the Cleveland Clinic in November and still have not heard a thing from. I'm second guessing myself on whether or not to get the surgery though. I have a lot of health issues that are not related to my weight and I'm concerned whether or not surgery would be good for my body. Not sure I'd be able to recover well. Plus, my insurance will be gone in May because that's when my divorce will be finalized. Sigh. I feel very lost right now and not sure what path to take. I would love to speak with you more though. I hope you are feeling and doing well after the surgery!

I am on Facebook, Angel Carpenter Warren...if you go to Drugmart you may have seen me...I work back at the courtesy window so if you've paid a bill or returned something, we may have met... I go back from surgery on Tuesday! I'm sorry they haven't contacted you yet, that seems strange. I would probably call again and ask where you are in the process. Our version of Aetna (there are different plans) required I do a six month medically supervised diet, a psych evaluation, and attend one support group meeting. They did offer a three month track that would have had a more intensive supervised plan with counseling appointments, etc. But it wouldn't have worked with my schedule so I chose the longer path. I am lucky to not have any health issues other than an extremely high bmi and thus I qualified. There are so many people who do have issues and make it through just fine...I'm sure they will know how to advise you after your appointment. I went through St. V's, but I do know people who went through the Clinic and the programs are similar, I loved the staff and surgeon at St. V's and am glad I went there. I'm 5 weeks out and it is very different and emotional. If you ever need to talk, even if you don't have the surgery, I have three children and have struggled with weight my entire life. Also, there may be a way to extend your insurance even after your divorce is finalized, Aetna would be able to tell you if you qualify for a few months of Cobra coverage. Take care!

I live in Findlay, and Dr. Teel in Dayton is doing my surgery on Feb 26th! I wish it wasn't so long of a drive, because I'd love to attend the support meetings.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
