Low Bmi'ers...how Long To Goal?

Recommended Posts

This has been super slow for me, I think I just made 10lbs, but I had surgery 12/26, my doctor recommends, between 90-100 grams Protein on soft food phase with about 500 calories... I have been at 172 for 4 days now but also started menstrual on Sunday... anyone, stall during that TOM...? I suppose again, body is adapting. Wish I were losing more, but then again, I didn't want to drop it overnight - this was one of my fears, but there are still times where I feel like... am I the only person in the world this wont work for? I know I didn't have the weight to lose like others, but since we are all Low BMI'rs, responding... maybe some of you can relate? I am only 5 foot 3.

Hey Guys:

I'm 5'1. My first pre-op weight was 205. The next month, my Nutritionist told me to add "healthy carbs and startches" to my diet, and at my next pre-op appt. I weighed 213! I had to work the next 4 months just to lose the 8 lbs. I gained. I struggled. Finally, at my last pre-op, I had gone back down to 203, and my weight at surgery check-in was 199.5!

I am 8 weeks out, and I weigh 178 right now. I had a 3 week stall. I up'd my Protein to 70-80 grams of protein, and just started exercising last week. My stall broke, and I lost 3 pounds! Slowly but surely, and I have gone from a size 22 to an 18, sometimes a snug 16. LOL

For the record, I haven't had any sweets, or breads of any kind. I thought following my meal plan strictly would promote faster weight loss. I am still sticking to the plan, despite not having the fastest results. I think the lack of exercise, slowed down my loss...Good luck everyone! We didn't put our bodies through this to fail:)

I did the same thing you are doing. During my losing phase, I had NO bread, nothing remotely sweet, I ate protein a bite or two of veggies at night. Seldom had fruit, they said to treat fruit as a treat. Slowly, after I reached goal, I started adding things back into my diet. There are still some things I CHOOSE not to eat, and some things I'll have occasionally. I think I eat like a naturally thin person.

Just wanted to give an update. I am just over 3 months out. I was sleeved 1/18. You can see my monthly loss in my signature. I am so excited because I've been losing a pound a day for the last few days-- very unusual for me. As of this morning I weigh 144.8. I feel great. I am looking pretty good in clothes (not so great out of them ;-)), I am wearing mediums and size 8s in bith tops and pants. I am even less than 10lbs away from a normal bmi-- which I haven't been in 15+ years. I am very happy with my decision to get sleeved!!

Hi everyone. I was sleeved march 1st. I was 224 when I applied, 212 day of surgery and today at 7 weeks out I'm 186. My question for the successful lowbmi losers:

How many calories do u eat in a day? I'm between 600-800

How many carbs in a day? I've been told 50-75mg. Keep in mind some carbs are needed to avoid ketosis.

How much & what kind of excersise do you do?

Help me out. Thanks

I just wanted to follow up on this thread - I had surgery on 9/10/12 and was hoping to reach my goal of 120 by end of March. Well, it is now near the end of April and I am still working on getting to goal. I knew the last 10 pounds would be difficult but I didn't anticipate how much it would annoy me! I have exceeded the goal set by the dietician. I am now seriously investigating plastic surgery. I am still maintaining about 800 calories a day - if I eat more I feel sick. I am diligent about not grazing because I know that it would be easy for me to do all day! I don't exercise even though I should. That is my next goal!!!

100 day appointment today. 40 pounds down! Basically 3 pounds per week. Started with a BMI of 35. It's not fast but the longevity of the weeks adding up is amazing. Starting to graze, so need to stop it now. Summers coming and want another 25-35 pounds off!

It looks like it's been 2.2 lbs per week (15 weeks). Does that seem normal?

I think that is completly normal !! I was a very VERY slow loser It took me almost 9 months to lose 61 lbs. When everyone else was at goal within 4 months !! It will come off Just be patient the slower the better as far as loose skin goes. Exercise is very important to make sure your arms thighs etc. are not to flabby and you can wear short sleeved shirts : ) I walk atleast 2 miles 5 days a week I do Pilates atleast 3 days a week and do thigh exercise every other day and arms every other day. I would like to lose about 10 more lbs Howere I think my body is done!!!! I am totally fine and content where I am so its all good : ) I did not start exercising until about the 5 th month and really wish I would have done it sooner!! Water is the number one thing and What I had to do was make sure I was hungry before I ate Head hunger was really hard for me and I now have a good control over it. I still have mny days where I feel like I eat like a wild animal LOL But I have to keep in mind I am in control !! You are doing fantastic and keep positive !! Keep me updated on your journey and if you have any questions feel free to ask and if i know the amswer I will gladly share !! : )

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
