What Is Your Pre Op Diet?

Recommended Posts

My Dr just told me to loose 10 lbs. I'm trying to appeal my ins. Denial but still want to lose the weight so if it is approved I'm ready to go!

Are you on Protein Shakes? How many calories a day? Are you only Clear Liquids for 2 days prior to surgery?

My preop diet wasnt bad

3-5 Protein Shakes a day i used eas lite choc.

One meal-

i could have 5 oz of lean meat/fish no fried

2 cups of veggies

no corn or starches

Was allowed maybe a tbls of fat( butter/dressing)

Mustard came in handy

I did some sliced turkey deli meat with mustard and spinach same with roast beef

Baked chicken with steamed broc and.carrots

I seasoned it to change up the taste.

Hope this helps a lilbit

I really didn't have or either, my surround just said to lose 5-8 pounds. I have been doing 40-60 grams Protein Shakes, one meal lean meat with veggies and 2 low fat dairy for Snacks.

No wheat/ starch

No sugar

Low fat

No carbonation

Lots of Water and rest!

Good luck!

My pre op is fairly simple. For 1-2 weeks a 1,200 calorie diet and 2 days before surgery, clear liquids.

However I'm very paranoid about my liver being fatty so I plan on adding 2 days of full liquids between low cal and clears :)

I'm very lucky my surgical team has such realistic guidelines. Post op is pretty easy, 3-4 days clears, a little over a week full liquids/mushies then solids. All pretty much at my own pace. But my nut trusts me. She knows how paranoid I am about a leak haha

I am allowed 4-5 shakes a day, up to 900 calories. The shakes are through Bariatric Advantage and I can mix in fruit, yogurt, oatmeal, and skim milk but cannot eat any of those foods alone - strictly shakes :(

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
