MerrySoul678 8 Posted November 13, 2012 hey guys - hope everyone is well. I am 14 days post-op and so far have only been weighing myself once a week. the thought behind that is "i dont want to become a slave to the scale" - but, now that I am starting on stage 3 - soft foods, im wondering if i should weigh myself daily to keep better track of how the new foods i am introducing to my sleeve may affect my weight. Any feedback? Do you weigh yourself daily/weekly/monthly/never and why? thanks in advance! Marisol
delta_girl 931 Posted November 13, 2012 You have a very mentally healthy approach now. I'm a slave. It isn't fun most of the time. 2 ArtSong and Banned member reacted to this
Justsleevin49 12 Posted November 13, 2012 I am three weeks out, have been weighing everyday, just because I'm excited. However, set backs do bum me out, so am either going to switch to twice a week or once a week. Dietician explained, if we get stuck sometimes it means we actually have to increase calories to jump start metabolism again. Waiting a week to find out that I'm not losing due to not taking in enough calories seems like too long. Don't want to obsess either. 1 ProudGrammy reacted to this

So far I've only been weighing myself once a week. I do NOT plan on weighing myself daily. It is tempting, but I can't do that to myself... I would drive myself crazy!!!! I agree on starting soft foods and wondering if that is going to change the rate of weight loss. So far I've lost 24 pounds... I am scared to see if the scale slows or doesn't even move at all now that some foods are going in..... 1 ProudGrammy reacted to this
PerfectlyImperfect 49 Posted November 13, 2012 I weighed every day my first week and realize how bad it was for me emotionally. Although I was losing if I didn't lose as much as I wanted I would get upset. Now I weigh, measure and snap my progress pic every Sunday 1 ProudGrammy reacted to this
crickee 85 Posted November 13, 2012 I lost 60 lbs about 3 years ago and was weighing every day. I got lazy about a year ago and stopped weighing daily, I gained 15 lbs back. When I started my supervised diet in June, I started weighing daily again and I found that I was more careful with my choices. I don't think about being a scale slave, it's just a part of my day to keep me focused. Everyone is different and needs to do what works for them. 1 ProudGrammy reacted to this
MerrySoul678 8 Posted November 13, 2012 thanks guys. i think i will stick to once a week and just keep on doing what im doing. @perfectlyimperfect i like your idea of snapping a pic every week too. think i will start doing that, thanks!
icequeen 3 Posted November 13, 2012 I agree. We are all different. I still weigh in every day. It makes me feel in control. If by chance. Or bad choices, i put on weight, it would take alot to lose it. 1 ProudGrammy reacted to this

lsereno 2,525 Posted November 13, 2012 Hi Merry, I see you've made your decision, but I just wanted to weigh in :-) I do weigh every morning when I first get up, but I only track the weight I am each Friday. I use the daily weight to hold myself accountable, and it helps me understand little ups and downs go with the territory. I may weigh a little more on one day, but during the losing phase, I lost every week. Now that I am at goal, I still weigh every day. It helps me make better choices throughout the day. Best wishes on your journey! Lynda 3 Threetimesacharm, doxieville and ProudGrammy reacted to this
iggychic 1,405 Posted November 13, 2012 The only time I haven't weighed daily is when I was overweight and not doing anything about it. When I was thin (about 7 years ago) and single, I weighed myself daily. One pound didn't set me off in a panic, but if I had consistent gains for several days verses the normal up and down a pound or two you should see, I would deal with it with more exercise. I found love, got busy, and gained weight, not weighing myself daily. Daily or weekly, even healthy thin people should have some regularity to their scale. That's not unhealthy unless you let it be. 2 Wanderlustingmama and ProudGrammy reacted to this
3lilrams 37 Posted November 13, 2012 I am 9months out, and I still weigh in daily. The only break I allow myself is during my PMS phase, because of bloating, etc. But, weighing in daily helps me stay on track! I look forward to getting on the scale each morning. And weigh in naked, its your true honest weight. I am 9 months out and down from 325-171! Weighing in has helped me keep my eye on the prize! And its okay to hit stand stills every now and then! Just keep your head up, and go for the gold! 1 ProudGrammy reacted to this

Although I weigh in each day, On the first of every month since my surgery, I have kept a spreadsheet log of my loss in weight and inches of my neck, calves, biceps, waist, bust, thighs and hips. That is also a good motivator at the beginning of each month, because I can see the areas that need more work at the gym, and set new goals for myself. mwrarr 244 Posted November 13, 2012 I'm a slave... I have daily morning WI's since 2008. I have been logging them for "data" since May 2011. Since then, I have only missed 30 WI's. It doesn't affect me--it's not like I'm using this information to alter my behaviour...but if I don't do it I get really antsy. I was/am hoping that w/surgery I will finally have a reason/excuse to not weigh every day. But as this process goes on, I'm realizing that I may not be able to stop. 347*294/284/135 (*347HW/294SSW) | @Mwrarr | mwrarr.wordpress.com
