Diabetics & Protein ?'s, Please Help

Recommended Posts

I am in the beginning of my journey and haven't yet met with the surgeon for my consultant but was told today that having this surgery isn't going to be good for me because I'm diabetic and diabetic's "CAN'T" eat this much Protein because it is too hard on my liver and kidney's. I asked this person if they were in the medical profession and they said no, but that was what the Dr's told her sister when she wanted to get the surgery and she never had the surgery :{ (I'm not sure if she was going to get the bypass or the sleeve) and the funny thing to me is I live in a small town that doesn't have all the stores you all talk about on here and went to the grocery store and just happened to walk down the Natural foods isle (which is brand new in our store) and I found the PB2 that I've been seeing mentioned on here a lot, so I was reading the label and she walked up and just started talking to me.

For the diabetic's out there, have any of you been told to be careful of too much protein or introducing the protein into your diet slowly? Until now I have never paid any attention to how much Protein I'm eating. I only have watch the sugar, carbs & sodium. Any advise or words of wisdom would be awesome. Thanks in advance for taking the time to read and respond :}

Protein is not good for diabetics but doing high protein for a while to get the surgery and maybe get rid of your diabeties out weighs that. Im no medical professional but that what my doctor said The diabeies is also hard on the kidneys and liver.

      I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
