My surgeon told me it would be a good idea to take some over the counter Prilosec for reflux and that it would help the swelling in my stomach go down. I went to get some but all I could find were capsules. Is it okay to take a capsule 4 days post-op?

Well my surgery was on oct 18, and my dr gave me a prescription for Prilosec and the are capsules, I take them just fine. He also said if I couldn't take the just open them up and sprinkle in some applesauce.

I open the capsule and dump the beads in.

I am on it. I have slight reflux which burns so bad at night if I don't take it. Right after surgery I opened the capsule and pour in my mouth. Now I just swallow the pill directly.

Open the capsule and put the beads on applesauce. Do not swallow the pill whole. If it gets lodged or even worse, it wasn't worth the price. Also ask about the liquid version of Prilosec. My surgeon suggested it.

I swallow my Prevacid whole and have since about 5 days post op. doc said ok once the swelling goes down so it doesn't feel "stuck"

My surgeon has me on Prevacid that dissolves. When I asked if I could just take my Prilosec he said only if I open the capsule. I was told I couldn't take capsules anymore because the do not stay in the sleeve long enough to dissolve. The same goes for time release medication. You could try Zantac over the counter too, they work well.

I've been taking Prilosec capsules since day 4 with no issues. You shouldn't empty capsules if they're extended release.

I open the capsules and pour it in my Water or Crystal Lite as per my doctor's recommendation. I do that 2x a day.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
