Vidalia 122 Posted November 12, 2012 My surgeon told me it would be a good idea to take some over the counter Prilosec for reflux and that it would help the swelling in my stomach go down. I went to get some but all I could find were capsules. Is it okay to take a capsule 4 days post-op?

PerfectlyImperfect 49 Posted November 12, 2012 I am on it. I have slight reflux which burns so bad at night if I don't take it. Right after surgery I opened the capsule and pour in my mouth. Now I just swallow the pill directly.
delta_girl 931 Posted November 12, 2012 Open the capsule and put the beads on applesauce. Do not swallow the pill whole. If it gets lodged or even worse, it wasn't worth the price. Also ask about the liquid version of Prilosec. My surgeon suggested it.
Mommy sleeve 16 Posted November 12, 2012 I swallow my Prevacid whole and have since about 5 days post op. doc said ok once the swelling goes down so it doesn't feel "stuck"
Ailly 32 Posted November 12, 2012 My surgeon has me on Prevacid that dissolves. When I asked if I could just take my Prilosec he said only if I open the capsule. I was told I couldn't take capsules anymore because the do not stay in the sleeve long enough to dissolve. The same goes for time release medication. You could try Zantac over the counter too, they work well.
GeauxForIt 659 Posted November 12, 2012 I've been taking Prilosec capsules since day 4 with no issues. You shouldn't empty capsules if they're extended release.
Bailey's Mom 7 Posted November 12, 2012 I am taking Prevacid tablets that disolve on your tongue. A whopping $102.00 co pay for one month. OUCH!!! I can take the capsules in about two months

I do that 2x a day.
