In Preparation For Post Surgery

Recommended Posts

I've been trying to make little changes. Little over three weeks without having a coke. That is a big one for me!!!! I'm very proud of myself for that!!!

Trying to chew food 30 times is very difficult. I find the food after about 15 chews just goes to the back of my throat and I can't help but swallow. The no drinking during a meal is killing me.

Maybe my bites are still too big and that is making hard, I don't know.

I don't typically use a straw so I'm not too worried about that but I still Don't see why once we are healed we can't use it.

Hi,

I think of the size spoon I used before maybe 4 years ago, I had always eaten from the largest spoon I could find just short of a serving one, I gave that up, but had one or another in my ktchen drawer for years and nobody did quite see it always when I used it. I was put off by the idea of baby utensils and have yet to try that one out but I'll have to do something just to be sure. I am thinking and may get some to seperate/cut the food into bite size portions before I put them in my mouth. It seems People also may just get slower because the lesser apetite and discomfort helps them to and you will get used to it. Keep thinking it and then it will become the thing to do.

So excited and so nervous. Last night I said to my husband I don't know if I can do this. He in a nut shell said after all I have been through the last three months I'm not backing out now lol.

Thanks for the help!

Have you been sleeved?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
