Suggestion On Post Sleeve Surgery And Depression

Any suggestions? There is so much to deal with! Help :( this is .... Ahhh! Lol sorry but I don't believe I look thin as people say, I feel fat and ugly all over again!

me also...I am 3 1/2 month post op and I am starving...I have lost 60 lb now but no weight loss in the past 3 weeks because I think I'm cheating....,I'm sick about it but I'm so damn hungry.....

join the gym...now have to start going...need to be busy so I don't dwell so much on it...

very depressed about it....anyway...I feel for u...it sucks....where r u at....I am in California....

Keep busy. Fill your schedule up...thats what I did.

Hey sweetie, you know I'm here if you need anything...I mean that. I have been seeing a therapist every 2 week's since a month pre-op. She is helping me deal with the roller coaster of feelings and helping me resolve my issues with food. I HIGHLY recommend having someone completely unbiased to talk to. ((Hugs)) hang in there!

Many of us, me included, have experienced the strange feeling of feeling fatter even as you lose weight. I shared on here that I felt thinner when I weighed 205 then I did at 190. It was temporary insanity...lol... the brain takes awhile to catch up with everything.

I still feel fat. I don't know why exactly, maybe i will always feel that way, but it is getting better.

The difference is, I am not letting it control my feelings or steal the joy. What works for me is that I am focused on the "doing". Regardless of how i think I look, what I know to be true is that I LOVE being able to run, jump, ride, climb and just DO things that were physically so hard for me before. Everytime I climb in and out of the bed of my truck with ease, it reminds me of something that used to about kill me to do.

I just returned from a business trip. I was in some big meetings so dressed up nice, including with Shapewear. I walked by a mirror and didn't recognize that very normal looking, and daresay attractive looking, woman in the reflection. I don't generally compare myself to others, but i realized that I am no longer the fattest person in the room. In fact, I was smaller then most of the women in the meeting. I looked at the ladies that I KNEW where bigger then me and thought "they don't look too bad, so I must not look too bad". Look for those opportunities to reset your brain.

Counseling may help, but for me it is focusing on what there is to be grateful for rather then the negative thoughts. As the saying goes, "what you feed, grows" so feed the good feelings and gratefulness if that is the part of you that you want to encourage.

I am so get what you are saying. Just my experience is that following the "rules" of Protein first, small but frequent meals, and keeping simple carbs/sugars out of your diet helps so much with the desire to eat. I am not even sure it was hunger, more like just wanting to eat - that feeling like I was starving I think was in my head more then my body.

I am still shocked that I can fit an entire meal on a tea plate, and the food doesn't even touch.... I notice that when I use regular size plates I might feel more deprived or rather that I "need" more food. I hate to call it hunger because i don't trust that word entirely....lol

Anyway, hang in there, lots of changes, both mental and physical. I have just experienced that my behavior - ways of eating - influences this "hunger" alot.

Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!! You both hit on the nail!!!! I have been on Zoloft and Xanax for some months and even upped my dosage cause it gets worse and worse!

Do u go to the psych dr you went for your preop? Maybe I should make an appt :(

Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!! You both hit on the nail!!!! I have been on Zoloft and Xanax for some months and even upped my dosage cause it gets worse and worse!

Can you still take anti-depressant meds, after surgery? I've been on Prozac for ages but was worried that I'd have to stop taking it after surgery. Not sure I'm ready to go med free .. that depression is scary stuff!

I started taking Zoloft and Xanax 3months after my surgery due to my friend dying since then additional 6 people in my life passed on, I now suffer from post traumatic plus Wls and my mind unable to catch up with me and life!!!! I'm on my way to an interview and soooo sad I hope I don't blow it! So much has happened, it takes over my mind

No, I see a clinical therapist that's close to home. But, I know that Dr P said he is available to us post op as well. Make an appt....what could it hurt?

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
