I'm curious' date=' when did he stop using the recovery house?

I'm not sure. I heard that it was under construction months ago but when I went in November it wasn't even mentioned.

I am really glad I didn't find this site until after I had my surgery. This reminds me of when you are pregnant there are always people who tell you horror stories and it is usually those who have not had a baby. My surgeon told me all the things that can go wrong during and after this surgery' date=' infection, leaks, death but I trusted him enough to go ahead. Are these stories justification for not going ahead with the surgery or are you trying to talk yourselves out of it Forget the horror tales and find a surgeon you trust, but be prepared because even the best surgeons have patients who experience complications and sometimes even die. You don't get a guarantee with surgery.[/quote']

I agree. I think you should definitely find someone you trust. I went to Almanza because I knew people who went and I could afford him. Honestly, I don't tell people to go to him or Mexico for that matter just because I feel blessed that I had no issue but I don't know what their outcome would be. I would have rather gone close to home and had follow ups. But I can relay the truth if someone asks.

Nicolanz, I think telling the truth about our own experience is important and helpful. But relaying "I heard, I read" horror stories helps no-one. I am like you, my experience was excellent and also I realize that I am lucky that this surgery is quite affordable in Australia. I could meet and choose my surgeon and his follow up care is great. I just wish everyone would stick to telling their own story.

Selecting Surgery in Mexico is all about word of mouth..............how else would we do it?

Use this site like 'Yelp'

That's not a reply to what I said though. I physically saw 8 hospital beds. That's it.

Thats great - I don't question your experience, but just keep in mind that it is impossible for things to have changed. As a nurse I am just putting it out there that we move people around all the time to accommodate for more patients, Just because in your experience you saw only 8 beds doesn't mean that absolutely hands down he NEVER does more than 8 people. I wasn't looking for a fight, I'm just saying, as someone who has read a LOT thats not an uncommon thing for his patients to say.

I agree, all I am saying is, make sure the words come from people who have been through the experience rather than those with secondhand stories to tell.

I'm glad I already got the surgery too and did not come here for help. It seems everyone is okay with reading false information. This surgery is scary enough. I guess if you were really interested in seeing a surgeon, you would ignore the "I heard" stories and contact those who really saw that surgeon. If anyone needs any information about my experience, I am happy to give it! Just send a message so you don't get distracted by people who did not use Almanza.

Good luck and Merry Christmas!!

And Aussie, I just had my second baby and know exactly what you are talking about!!! Haha! When I told one of my clients that I was pregnant, her first response was...."Oh, my coworker was 6 months out and just had a miscarriage because she smoked before she got pregnant" :/ Really? No congrats? And how does anyone know the cause of the miscarriage was smoking BEFORE pregnancy?

A thread like this happens often. A few weeks ago i saw one about Dr. Alverez and before that it was Dr. Kelly. And its usually fueled by the people who didn't even use the surgeon. But they "heard" about that surgeon.

Nothing better to do?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
