Struggling After Gallbladder Removal :(

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if anybody else is in my shoes... I had my gallbladder out 2 months ago. I had two emergency surgeries back-to-back (one to remove gallbladder & another to place stent). Ever since then, my guts have been WACKO! Sorry for TMI, but I have the runs on average of 3 times a week. Another thing is when I do get the urge "to go", the pains feels different then before... Like, I feel like I am going to have the runs every single time, but its not that everytime (if this makes any sense?). Anybody else? Does it get better? I know the dr said some people can be sensitive to fatty foods after losing their gallbladder, but this doesn't seem to correlate to my diet.

I would talk to your surgeon, as mine forgot to mention that bile diarrhea for months or longer is a side effect of gallbladder removal. I started taking half an imodium every morning and that helped for awhile. I wish I could help more...mine finally got better about 9 months post op.

Unfortunately loose stool is a side effect of the gallbladder surgery. I had mine removed in June and even still sometimes can have them. It does get a little better over time...the urge to 'go' has not changed and in fact i have to go almost immediately. :-( don't think that will change. Sorry for the gross ness of the info

Had mine out in 2008 and experienced what you are but its dumping syndrome. The gallbladder is meant to regulate the amount of bile that goes into your stomach that digests your eaten food. The liver creates the bile, it would go into the gallbladder and the gallbladder would drip it little by little into the tummy. So now with no gallbladder, all the bile gets dumped into the tummy so the longer you go without eating, the more bile that is building up and if you have a tummy full of bile then eat, its dissolves so fast that WHOOSH, runs. So I have to make sure to eat something, anything at regular intervals during the day to avoid the sudden urge to go potty. It does get better but I think maybe Im just used to preventing it when I can but I do know that even now if I havent eaten in a long time, Im gonna have an issue. Hope that helps.

That makes so much sense! Thank you! I do I without eating sometimes... I'm definitely going to see if this is connected to the problem! :)

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
