Sounds like I just invaded the slumber party ladies.

Oh well, I am sure I will be able to hold my own.

I too am booked with Dr. Coburn in early February 2007 and am looking forward to getting on with it. After researching the whole lap band procedure and determining it was the right way to go, I also decided to self-pay, because as most of you know, Alberta's wait list is out of sight! I read on one of these posts that Dr. Coburn is going to be training a doc in Edmonton and northern Alberta to do fills. Anyone have an idea where in the north of Alberta that community is? Love this support group-really informative and fun. Good luck to all you future bandsters-keep in touch about your experiences - helps all of us newbies to cope until our big day.:kiss2: :xena_banana: :clap2:

No Priscilla, I can't for the life of me remember where he said....I was so excited he was coming to Edmonton to train someone. I'm sure you could call and ask though. He mentioned it to me during my consultation interview over the phone. Keep in touch as I think I will be banded shortly after you? Feb seems so far yet so close at the same time. Good luck.

Hi Becca77 - thanks for the reply- I would love to keep in touch with you - there is a lady in my own town that I have met and she is getting her lapband done on Dec 15/06 and getting through her pre-op diet really well - very proud of her. Anyone out there know how surgeon decides what size of band he uses on his patients. Some seem to have a big 10cc and others all the way down to 4cc. I don't get it. Any answers?:xena_banana: :girl_hug:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
