Recommended Posts

I'm so depressed!! I chose to have sleeve vs rouine-y at last minute and REGRET it!! I havn't lost weight in 2 1/2 mnths! I had my surgery May 23,2012 and I feel like I should go back and have the rouine-y now...does anyone know if this is possible? I exercise daily, eat right and still No more weight loss!! I didnt go thru this to still be 245# after 6 mnths. Any suggestions??

That is very depressing. I can't think of why this would happen. Everyone I talk to who had the sleeve done lost significant weight within 6-9 months. I hope things work out for you. Keep us posted.

A conversion to RYGB is definitely possible...in fact, the "sleeve" procedure was originally done as a first step towards a more "severe" form of weight loss surgery, for those patients who needed to lose weight before having the second procedure. If you're truly convinced the sleeve isn't working for you, make an appointment to speak with your surgeon. Talk with him about your concerns, go over your approach with him, and your nutritionist (including exercise and diet), and see if RYGB is a better solution for you. There may be simple adjustments you can make, to your diet and exercise, that would net you better results, and would be worth trying, before going for the more involved procedure.

I wish you the best,

Laura

I would say first look at your food. Do you track tour food? How many calories are you getting daily? How much Protein? Are you eating any sweets? How many carbs are you eating?

I agree with Ready, evaluate everything you are doing, make adjustment and if that fail then i would talk to my doctor

I also agree with Ready about evaluating what you're doing. This is not a rule and only a base but I was told to use this to stay in weightloss mode. Of course, your activity level would dictate your calorie levels.

Daily Intake

Calories 600-1000

Protein 80-100 grams

Water 10 cups +

Carbs 20-40 grams

I am not a NUT and you should consult one to find out what levels would be good for you so don't take this as gospel but rather just a base to help you in evaluating.

Good luck.

I am in the same boat. Depressing. I feel like I'm the only one. I got the sleeve on sept 12, 2012. I've lost about 25 pounds. Starting weight was 230 give or take a couple. I'm now 202 and the scale rarely moves. Only down one size, almost 2. All my friends who had surgery are already way past me. Still trying and trying to stay positive.

Sleeved 9/26/12

SW 244

Today 217

Loss for the past 30 days 1lb Total loss since surgery 27lb's :( I get all my Fluids and Protein in a long with workouts. So I don't know I'm just slow like that and after 30 days yeah I'm getting discouraged and bored with all of this. I was a lazy eater to start with skip Meals go a day or two without eating at all eat fast convenience foods. I as well wanted the Bypass And really regret not getting it right now.

Okay, we all know that lower BMI are just going to lose slower.. that is a fact no matter what.

I don't think you will magically lose better with another surgery without figuring out WHY you aren't losing at a reasonable rate with the sleeve. I know for me it took working with a nutritionalist to really accept and understand just how little I need to eat. People say they are eating healthy, but without specifics it is hard to know ... all it takes is an extra hundred or two calories a day and the weight loss just stops.

I failed with the lapband, so I am not just blowing smoke, failing at a weight loss surgery is something I have some experience with... The sleeve has been kick ass great for me, but it wasn't just the procedure that is better - it is the education and support I got that helped me lose 133 pounds in a year.

I absolutely will NOT lose weight if I don't get in enough fluids. If I am not well hydrated, I feel as though my body holds onto everything it has to make up for what I am not getting (hydration and nutrition).

It's possible to have a revision but you need to figure out why you are not losing first, and the answer is not just that you had the wrong surgery. It's still calories in and calories out to SOME extent, although i do understand that its complicated, the facts are still the facts. Are you tracking your calories daily? What do you stats look like? How much do you have to lose?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
