How Much Did You Lose Around 10 Months Post-Op?

Recommended Posts

On the 11th of Nov, I'll be 10 months post op officially. My weight loss has slowed down quite a bit. This month, I had to work my behind off to lose 6lbs. So I'm just curious to know how much you guys lost (monthly) when you neared your surgiversary.

I know everyone loses differently and there are various factors like your starting weight, current BMI etc that influences the weight loss. But I'm just trying to get a general idea of what seems to be the average for 10 months p.o.

I am at 5 months and I lost 3 pounds last month and only a few pounds this month. You have lost a significant amount of weight and since you are at 165 pounds now, it is going to take a whole lot more weight training, cardio and actual work to lose now. When I weighed 300 - 250 or even 200 pounds it took less energy for me to burn calories. Now I have to work so much harder to burn calories so I have to expend a lot more time and effort into burning calories.

I burned a lot more calories walking up a flight of stairs at 300 then I do now, because I'm not lugging so much weight around, it's bound to slow down which means I need to step up my game. Also, if your building lean muscle that does tend to slow down weight loss a bit, but it tends to burn fat faster. Muscle takes a lot less space than than fat so you can still be shrinking.

This is at least what I keep trying to get through to myself so I stop being disappointed.

Mina - thanks for the response! You are absolutely right. I need to up the amount of physical activities in my daily routine. I burned off calories like crazy in the first couple of months. I didnt even do much in terms of workout at that time. Just walking 5 miles a day.

Last month I started doing zumba on weekends. So much fun! But I know I havent been as commited to my workout regimen as I should be. I guess that's gotta change if I hope to lose atleast 4 lbs a month going forward!

I've reached my surgeon's goal of 165. My first goal is 150. I hope I get there within my surgiversary!

I am 10 months out and have lost 56 pds. I would like to lose more but have not moved the scales in weeks. I have no energy for nothing. Have you experienced low energy?

I was at 11 months on Nov 12th. I lost right around 6 pounds a month during the last two months. I am upping my workout intensity, shortening duration. Just trying to mix things up a little.

I think it is pretty normal to drop down to this slower rate of loss.

I was a bit low on energy during the first couple of months - but not anymore. And that was because my blood sugar levels were a bit low after surgery. Have you checked with your doc about why you feel very low on energy? I hope everything works out well for you.

As far as losing more: I think we need to experiment a bit with multiple variations in the level of workout + Calorie intake (esp. carbs vs Protein ratio). Whenever I shake things up a bit, I tend to lose more. Give it a try. :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
