Hello Everyone!

I had my VSG on November 6th, early in the morning. Technically I am 4 days post-op, but because I had it so early...I'm saying I'm 5.

I had my surgery at mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. It was done by Dr. Todd Kellogg and a wonderful team of residents, CRNAs, anesthesiologists, nurses and pharmacy personnel. I was very well taken care of.

Dr. Kellogg was absolutely wonderful! He is new to Mayo Clinic, but has practiced at the UofM for the past 15, or so, years. He has a really good bedside manner, and I really felt like he cared about me and my feelings. He explained the different surgeries in detail, and never pressured me to choose one over the other. I really respected that about him. I mean, it is my body, after all.

My surgery had no complications, but I have a lot of trouble tolerating anesthesia. I felt nauseous until just today.

So far I'm having no problems sipping on my Water or chicken broth. I've been getting in between 6-8 glasses the past 2 days. I feel thirsty all the time, so that seems to help. I'm also having no problems with my Vitamin (flinstone's complete) or Calcium supplement (tums ultra). I chew them really well and they go down just fine.

I have not been able to tolerate things that are overly sweet. Vitamin Water Zero is a no go. Isopure Protein water is disgusting. liquid Tylenol is unbearable. Seriously. Did you know they put high fructose corn Syrup in that stuff?! That is crazy (and an entirely separate post...).

As of now, I do not have any feeling of hunger. I don't crave anything or feel like I'm starving. That being said, I will definitely admit that it has been a little hard when I see foods I like. It's not like my body needs them or is craving them...but I feel like my brain is playing tricks.

I know this can't disappear overnight, so I'm paying attention to this and hope to re-train my mind.

I am still on my pain meds, and I've got to say I definitely need them. My large incision (where the stomach was removed) is really sore. It hurts to get up or lay down, but every day is a little better.

I started a little blog to chronicle my adventures with my new tummy. Please check it out, if you would like!

I'm hoping to meet some people who are around my same age (27) and/or sleeved around the same time.

All the best!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
