How To Sleep? Suggestions?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I was sleeved 2 days ago and barely had any sleep while in the hospital and I am now at the hotel and tired but I am not sure how I am allowed to sleep or if there are pointers.

My incisions are covered up with staples and a bandage except where the drain was that just has a bandage.

Sorry if this is a silly question but I am losing trying to sleep.

If you have a recliner, try sleeping in that. I slept in mine for 2 weeks after surgery. Once I felt good enough to lay down I put a king size pillow next to me and used that to support my stomach while I slept (I'm a side/tummy sleeper).

Pillows!! Prop up your belly so it's not sagging down and pulling on the drain & incisions. Put a pillow under your knees if you are laying on your back. It will relieve the stress on your lower back & belly. Make the room really cold and pile on the blankets. Put a warm washcloth over your eyes. Try to get yourself in a meditative state.

I will also mention that for some reason insomnia seems to be common after this surgery.

Hang in there!

I've been struggling with insomnia since this surgery!!! Why is this? Does anyone know?

I THINK its a combo of the anesthesia and our bodies saying WTH happened to me!!! I had insomnia for the first 2 months. I'm better now but still wake up in the middle of the night. I'm reading more now than I ever have bcs there's not much to do at 3 am!!

I slept on my right side with a body pillow to rest my tummy and left leg on. Hope you have a speedy recovery!

Two years ago, I had VSG as an outpatient surgery. Loved being home same night, no drain, no staples, no cathedar, no pain pump, no IV and no nurses waking me up every hour.

So, how did I sleep? In a recliner for first week. Not sleeping on my side killed me those first few weeks. If you don't have one in your hotel room call downstairs and order a lot of extra pillow and create one.

Hope you have a speedy recovery and looking forward to reading about your future success. Sweet dreams of a new you!
