When Do People Notice?

Recommended Posts

It was right around 40 lbs that people started noticing. Plus, that's when I finally had to go buy new clothes. I always wore baggy shirts. Now things are more form-fitting and definitely noticeable. I'm down 57 now and some people still don't say a word.....I'm thinking they just don't know "how" to say it. Keep working hard and as long as YOU notice and feel better, that's all that matters!

I've lost 30 lbs and nobody has noticed. I carried a lot of it in my rear and around my waist, which I tried to hide with larger shirts. Since my chest is large, my stomach was about even with my DDs. Now there is actually a significant difference in that area. I'm guessing I'll drop another 30 before it gets noticed, but that's ok with me.

My sister-in-laws did not notice at 2 months out when I had lost 70 lb. It was strange because I really noticed. I think it took about 3 months and 90 lb before they started to notice. I definitely lost a lot of inches when the scale has not been moving as fast after 3 montgs. Now that I am down 110 everyone better notice!! LOL!!!

I need to lose about 150 total. 4.5 months out so far. The best part is losing my stomach. It is gone. Absolutely gone at size 36 pants size. My face, arms, legs and cheat are much smaller. It is amazing. I have never realized how big I was until losing all these inches. No problem sitting in and chair now, including movie theatre. I do have to say that sitting on hard surfaces is sometimes uncomfortable without the padding and I get pretty cold a lit. Good luck.

I think your "friend" is an idiot' date=' how could she not notice that you lost two sizes. I am very sorry for you, pay her no mind.[/quote']

Agreed. I'm down 40 lbs saw a co worker today for the first time and she just kept telling me how great I look. I'm told all the time. I'm just seeing it in my face personally and I've noticed my stomach doesn't poke out as much.

I think some people will notice right away and some have their heads up there bum. I figure these people either 1. Didn't pay enough attention to me before. Or 2. Loved me ad saw me differently so never really "saw" my weight for what it was.

I agree with a lot of the comments. Just wanted to say how unbelievably crazy it is to hear people call me skinny and to tell me I'm disappearing. I have NEVER been skinny so this whole thing is just crazy! Started at size 16/18 and am 10/12 now.

I'll be 6 months out next week. I'm a slow looser. I'm down 55 lbs. People just started noticing last week. Three people at work commented on my weight loss. Noone there knows I had surgery.

We were in a bar last night and I guess the bartender hadn't seen me for a while. He was funny....said, Oh geeze I didn't recognize you...you've done your hair different!

Yes, I've framed it with 35 less pounds LOL

My weightloss is all over, but my face went first. I'm half way to goal which helps it show more but his reaction cracked me up. I know he wanted to say something else but was worried about offending.

I'm in a town where no one here has known me skinny so it's kind of fun to have them discover what I "really" look like.

I once lost 50 pounds and was sad no 1 made any comments. Until I realized that my weight loss was just that. My weight loss. It mattered much more to me than to anyone else. I also have been in the other position. A friend of mine said," don't I look great?" and I said you always look great. And I truly meant it. But she was hurt because she has lost so much weight and I "didn't notice" I loved my friend before she lost weight and because she was my friend I still loved her even tho she lost weight. hmm

Where I work people haven't even started to notice... and I look NOTICEABLY slimmer and am down 90 pounds from 343 lbs. I am tall, so I think I already looked smaller than what I was. But I have dropped multiple sizes and am in straight sized coats. I think it may be because they see me often. Also, some people may just be shy about it and not want to mention it.

I know it's a little disappointing when you think someone woukd say something about your loss and then doesn't! I have a few people in my life who I'm very close to and they know my weight struggles and that I had surgery, but I know they will never compliment me-they are vert vain and self-abserved - I know they love me and are happy for me, but they also feel threatened by my success. It shows. Sometimes saying nothing says more than saying something... does that make sense? Also, acquaintances may nit say anything in case they say the wrong thing. Once I told a woman I knew socially only that she looked great-list some wright! She told me she was on chemotherapy fir breast cancer and was pretty I'll. OMG I wanted to hide! So, I think sometimes people want to say something but may fear there's another reason for the weight loss so they decide not to.

I've had some people say they notice especially in my face. Then when I tell people I've lost 67 pounds some look at me like no way. It even pisses me off when certain onry family members say oh. But I've had some people tell me I look thinner and different. Also I am trying not to wear the Baggie clothes buying things that fit better, like jeans. Because people can see your body. I know that we shouldn't worry about what people say but it is only natural. We've worked so hard and made a life altering decision. So I guess for me I just take everything with a grain of salt and just keep thinking of my goal ahead and I am losing weight (:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
