Men, close your eyes if you're uncomfortable with menstruation talk. LOL

I was sleeved October 15. Prior to the surgery, I was on a Prev PAC for a bacterial infection they found during the endoscopy. The Prev PAC caused a UTI. So, that's a heck of a lot of meds in my system before the surgery. The Friday before the surgery (3 days) I also seemed to have gotten my period but it had been odd prior to it and the doctors said it was all the antibiotics. I had bright red bleeding after the surgery. The nurses kept saying it was menstrual blood.

Since the surgery, I've had "drops" of extremely diluted blood in my urine, but only when I've wiped. Did a urine test and had ANOTHER UTI. They told me catheters can cause that. Took the meds for that. Once that 7 day med cycle was over, I was still having the same issue. I did another urine test and they found nothing. Doctor said it could be still catheter irritation. Really? 2.5 weeks after surgery still? She said it could be unique to me. But then, I seemed to have a full on period. So i couldn't tell if i still had the problem or if it was actually my period. Cramps, PMS, etc. so I'm pretty sure this is the real thing. However, it's EXTREMELY heavy. I mean, soaks thru tampons in little over an hour, a few times a day. In between, it's light.

I have an appointment with my gyno on Tuesday but was wondering if anyone else had this issue? I did a search online and there is mention of rapid weight loss can cause hormone issues thus causing heavy flow. I wouldn't call 26 pounds since October 1, rapid.

Any ideas?

My period came a week after surgery and lasted for 9 days!! It was heavy and then light off and on!! Maybe it's due to our hormones being so out of wack!

I did call the nurse line and they said if it's soaking through every hour constantly, then there's more of a concern and that seeing my doctor on Tuesday should be soon enough. She also said the blood clots I'm passing sounds like period stuff as well.?

I had a never ending period after my surgery. It lasted for weeks. Then I only had about a week off and my second cycle started. The second cycle lasted over two weeks. Then I got a couple of weeks off and had a third cycle...also longish. By my fourth cycle it seemed to even back out to normal. The surgery and weight loss reek havoc on our hormones so hopefully that's all it is for you. Sorry to hear about all the UTI issues you've been having. Those are the worst! I'm glad you're going to your gyno, hopefully it will put your concerns at ease.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
