You know it is funny that you mention this. I started taking a Calcium and acid reducer pill the last couple of days and I was nauseous also. I was worried something was wrong, but you may be right, it could be the pills. So today I am taking them with food and splitting them up during the day, so far so good.

I have had this problem with Vitamins my whole life. I found a Vitamin made by NatureMade that is a softgel. It is the only vitamin that has never made me sick.

Take them with food, but remember that Iron absorption is lessened when you eat with your medication. Also, avoid taking Calcium (or eating a calcium laden food) when taking Iron. Take them separately.

I had to switch to a chewable prenatal Vitamin and it worked much better and had a good balance of vitamins/minerals. I took it for more than a year even before I got pregnant. Now that I'm pregnant and everything makes me nauseous, I take a Gummy Vitamin and a separate iron supplement (the gummies don't usually contain iron) as well as B12 injections.

I can say from experience that it is very important to keep trying different things and not just give up on the supplements. They made me so ill that I stopped taking them, but around one year I was fatigued, sluggish and forgetful. I was seriously deficient in iron and B12 and once I got my levels back to normal my quality of life improved immensely.

Good luck,

~Cheri

Very good advice. I also struggled with finding a Multivitamin that would not make me throw up. Tried Bariatric Advantage, Celebrate capsules with iron and finally a trader joes high potency chewable tablets. The trader joes are the only ones that will not cause heaving and throwing up. They taste pretty good, are 5 calories and easy to take. Good luck finding something that works for you.

We tell our pregnant patients in L&D to take Flintstone Vitamins if they get nauseas... I take them and they seem to help since the gummies didn't go down well. Maybe try that.

What Calcium (chewable or not) do you take. I bought the Bariatric Advantage and its horrible tastes like biting into chalk.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
