SoonToBeThinKAT 67 Posted November 10, 2012 How often should you be having a bowel movement at almost 2 months out? The reason I ask is because since surgery I have a bowel movement maybe once every 2 weeks and this last time its longer than 2 weeks. I pass gas so I know something is moving around in there. I take MOM and it does not seem to help. I rarely got constipated prior to surgery and when I did I was very uncomfortable and I don't get that same feeling now. IF I am lucky i get about 2oz of Protein in me at each sitting and can not stomach any veggies to get any Fiber in so my diet consist of pure protein. I tried to search the topic but found a lot of post about a week or so post op so I apologize if this is a repeat of another thread...Is this common?? or am I the only one and need to start worrying and call the doctor? doxieville 799 Posted November 10, 2012 Hmmm....that's not really often enough. Try adding Miralax. I'm at 3 months and I go every other day. You could also try adding fiber chewables. They are everywhere. Are you drinking enough Water?
SoonToBeThinKAT 67 Posted November 10, 2012 I don't know why I didn't even think about chewable fiber! I will definitely pick some up today. Yes I am getting in my fluids. It's just weird it's like I have nothing in me lol
doxieville 799 Posted November 10, 2012 That is weird! And when you do go, it's normal?
SoonToBeThinKAT 67 Posted November 10, 2012 Yeah when I go it's normal. Well it has been in the past anyways.
doxieville 799 Posted November 10, 2012 Not to be crude, but you'd think going only every 2weeks that there would be....well, a big build up? Once you can start eating more that may happen, so you do need to work on getting things moving a bit quicker. And don't forget, if it's a concern, do go see your doctor. Good luck! 1 wonderfuss reacted to this
SoonToBeThinKAT 67 Posted November 10, 2012 That is what I'm afraid of happening. I have an appointment with the surgeon next week and I plan on brining it up. Hopefully it's not that. Thanks!
doxieville 799 Posted November 10, 2012 You're welcome. Good luck! Let us know what he says. Because you are correct, i don't think there is a thread specific to this issue.
It's all new 453 Posted November 10, 2012 I went through all sorts of problems with this. The solution that finally worked for me (and I tried quite a few) was this: 800 mg magnesium oxide nightly and two fiber gummies. The magnesium oxide is a supplement sold at drug stores everywhere. I started with 400 grams (which I think is a good idea) but it wasn't enough. The fiber gummies are also very easy to find - I use the vitafusion brand. I now go almost every day. This solution has led to no cramping at all, which is important to me! 1 lch2516 reacted to this

smithpy 117 Posted November 11, 2012 Miralax is wonderful and gentle. It only took me one dose and I went the next day. 2 Raven21 and xavtay2 reacted to this
Fiddleman 4,376 Posted November 11, 2012 Miralax is wonderful and gentle. It only took me one dose and I went the next day. Thank goodness for miralax. I can't even taste it or feel any texture if I mix it with 32 oz of flavored Water ( mio). I try and take one serving a day ( sometimes I forget). If there is build up. I have Smooth Move tea. Do not take Smooth move daily because your body my compensate for it, making it even harder to be regular. 1 Raven21 reacted to this
Jenny881 5 Posted November 11, 2012 I know for me I only go about once a week. I called my doctor and he said that's normal because we are eating such a small portion of food it's gonna take the body a while to push out the old. I know. Sounds gross. BUT... You SHOULD call your doctor to make sure there isn't a bowel obstruction. Also, my doctor recommended Miralax. But defiantly call doctor and just left them know what's going on. I work in the medical field and patients call all the time with questions. That's what we're here for. Good luck!
SoonToBeThinKAT 67 Posted November 12, 2012 I went out and bought some miralax and if there are no results by tomorrow morning then I'm calling the dr office when they open. I didn't worry too much when a week went by and even 2 weeks bc I had gone 2 weeks every other time but now that I'm 2 1/2 weeks its started to concern me. I will let everyone know what he says tomorrow if no results from the miralax.
SoonToBeThinKAT 67 Posted November 12, 2012 Ok so just an update on what the Dr's office said...full dose of miralax 4x a day and 2 colace morning and night and if not relieved by tomorrow to do an enema. If that doesn't work then she mentioned a Coca-Cola enema??? Wtf! She said it's an enema with flat coke.
