any one in utah want to talk

Recommended Posts

I'm in Utah and just got banded on 11-17 with Dr. Kirshenbaum in Denver. Would love to visit with others from Utah who are on here.

I'm so happy to have my band. I feel in control for the first time in years.

Does anyone from Utah ever get together?

Welcome and congrats on your banding! Good luck to you on your weight loss journey--it's different for everyone so (as I've had to learn) don't get discouraged if things are slow sometimes or if someone else is losing faster than you are. It's a WONDERFUL tool!

I live in Midway but there are quite a few bandsters in SLC. There was talk last summer about getting together for dinner or lunch somewhere but it never materialized. I'd LOVE to do that--after the holidays would be best for me.

Dr. Hansen's group has a monthly dinner for anyone who wants to come. I don't usually make it down to the valley on those nights but when I have gone it's been really fun. The location changes from month to month. There isn't one in December but I'll try to remember to let you know about it in January.

In the meantime, maybe we can try to get some interest in getting together in January. That would be super fun.

Happy holidays! Karen

Hi Utah group---

I live in Ogden and would love to have people to talk to! I was banded on August 12 and have a long way to go, but I'm working at it. I too haven't told many people, however one of the people I did tell, told my entire family--long story. Anyway, I had a fill on friday and seem to struggle for 3-4 days post fill with not being able to drink even Water. I know everyone always says, run to the dr. if you can't swallow, but this happens every time and I've continued to need fills despite this weird swelling post-fill. I'm wondering if anyone has the difficulties like I do post fill. I'm wondering if anyone was given any guidelines on do(s) and don't(s) prior to fills.

Thanks,

Amy

HI Amy--I'm afraid I don't have any advice for you since I'm not going to be banded for two more weeks, but I wanted to reach out and connect with someone else from Utah. Where do you get your fills? Where and when were you banded? If it is easier, email me at lapbandtherapist@gmail.com.

Thanks!

Melissa

I'm a military spouse living in South Ogden. I was banded March 15, 2010. Anyone else live near me?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
