Hey, all. Haven't posted in a while. I have finished my list of mandatory dos and my son also. We did everything together. We are waiting for the approval note from my son's PCP and then we will be submitting to insurance. We do not have the 5 years of weigh in history though, because my former doctor's office is currently going through some staff changes and they actually told me they would get to my file transfer when they get to it. Nice, huh?

Anyhooo, I was told by our nutritionist that we could start the first part of our cutting back program. They do a 3-stage before surgery diet. The first part is calorie reduction and meal substitution for one week and we could do that as long as we wanted to before we actually got our surgery date. We do a two week shake only diet up to the surgery. My problem is now, more than any other time in my food-filled life, I am thinking only about eating.

My son is doing awesome preparing himself for surgery. He is exercising, cutting back on his food intake, chewing the mandatory 30 times and taking at least 1/2 hour on his meals. Who IS this kid?

Not me! Last night, I couldn't keep my eyes open, but all I could think about was getting up to get something else to eat. What the hell? I really never was this obsessed before and I cannot seem to get a grip.

ANY suggestions would help. Thank you all.

hi there - hope things get settled sooner than later with that dr. office of yours ;)

obsessing about food now - even waking up now "thinking" about food

your life is gonna change drastically soon, you are recognizing that

you might be thinking something like "oh no, i'm never going to eat normal food again, what am i doing?!! -

hopefully you realize you will be able to eat "normal" stuff, sooner than later - but - you will have a MUCH smaller portion- but thats ok - you are gonna have a small tummy that can only hold so much food - thus the eventual weight loss - improved health et al

many people start the mourning process of the food they love to eat, all those excessive eating habits brought them to the life of the obese

no more - its ok to think about food a little more than usual, its understandable

start to concentrate on the pre-op food stuff you'll be doing soon - loosing all that weight and continueing into the great healthier happier new lifestyle with the help of the sleeve

good luck with WLS

speedy recovery for you and that great kiddo!!! :)

your son doing all the right things preparing for WLS - "who is this kid?" hey mom - its your great son!!!! - who raised him after all

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
