Fruit In Protein Drink.

Recommended Posts

After surgery, when will I be able to have fruit in my drink like a banana and strawberries. I am taste testing different brsnds before my date to see which one I like. I like Premiere vanilla with some strawbery, banana and Yoplait Greek yogurt. It will give me about 45 g. Protein in one drink.

One combo that I really like is vanilla shake + 1/2 c. of pineapple + coconut flavoring. It's not heavy on the Protein, but it is really delicious. Another is to brew celestial seasonings blueberry tea, let it cool, and use that as the Water in my vanilla + frozen blueberry shake. It's vividly purple and tastes great.

Now after reading another thread it looks like I should only stick with 25 g. Protein at one time. I really like the grek yogurt in my shake to thicken it up. Again when can we blend fruit in with it?

Brilliant! I have been playing with trying different Proteins in Water. I love love love the idea of using tea instead of water. Almond milk is working for me but I'd like to get down to water just in case. I'm trying tea tonight!!!

Most fruit is high in carbs and not recommended. Some are also fibrous and seedy. Ask your NUT, but I don't think that most recommend fruit. It should be Protein, veggies, then carbs if you can fit any in.

My NUT told me it was fine to add half a banana to my shake and I started that about 1 week post op. I just added a little more milk early on to make sure it was not so thick and went down easier. My Protein shake is 1 scoop Designer whey chocolate Protein powder, 1/2 banana, and 1 cup skim plus milk.

I think NUTs are different for everyone and have different ideas about what is and what is not acceptable. Mine was fine with my recipe from the beginning and the important thing is that I enjoy it enough to drink 2 a day if needed to get all my Protein in.

I was also told that I can add fruit to my Protein Shakes as long as it is blended. I can even add nuts and oatmeal (cooked or uncooked). But it also had to be pulverized.

Yeah, I've never been told no fruit. Most of my recipes actually tell me to put (limited) amounts in. I think that as long as I'm not going over 19g of carbs in a serving, I'm in the clear. It was a lifesaver when I couldn't keep anything down.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
