OMG - Ouch

Recommended Posts

I got a fill on Thursday, 1cc taking me up to 5.5cc in my VG Band. I think it is a little over the top. I had to be on liquids for 48 hours, then I tried some scrambled eggs. I think more eggs came back up than I ate. And I have a lot of pain after I ate, before everything came back up. Should I call right away and see if they can take some out? Or should I give it awhile to see if it gets any better? This is the first time since the surgery that I'm having a hard time. I've had some PB's, but it just came up so easy, no pain, no gagging. This is gagging, I thought I was gonna pass out.

Any advice?

ralheit - I had to be on liquids for 3 days then mushies...eggs would of been too soon for me. I'd try switching to mushies for a while before eating solids again. Scrambled eggs can be really dry. Switch to something like Cream of Wheat with applesauce for Breakfast for a while. Ease back into solids like you did right after surgery.

My second fill was tight too. It's just now feeling better and I had gotten it in August. As you lose more weight it gets looser but, for a while I had to stick to mushies and I was ok. If even the mushies don't stay down or if you have even the slightest trouble with fluids I would get a slight unfill. Good luck!

I agree,

I was very tight this time and I'm a long way from my doctor so instead of going for an unfill I have gave it a week eating lightly and I'm doing much better. So far glad I gave it some time. Good luck and hope your feeling better soon.

I posted the very same experience with scrambled eggs 4 days after my first fill. Doesn't that hurt??? I've sworn off of scrambled eggs for now. No big loss, but the whole experience has me being MUCH more careful about chewing and thinking about what might make me feel that horrible again.

I am finding that the morning is the most difficult. I can even feel my coffee going down. Looks like Breakfast will be changing to either a Protein Drink or hot Cereal from now on. I did have some mashed up meatloaf with a couple of spoons of mashed potato and even though it was a little uncomfortable, it did stay down.

I am pretty tight right now and have always been able to eat loosly scrambled eggs, I always put milk in them and that really helps alot. Usually scrambled eggs are all I can eat after my 3 days of liquids.

Just asking, so don't throw a shoe at me: Are you sure you want to be that restricted? Give the liquid/mushie diet a go for several days, but if that problem persists, reconsider your fill level. You do not want to have problems.

If you can't eat solid Protein, you will be tempted to eat non-food junk and soft food junk, and it will be counter-productive to your goal.

I sure hope you feel better soon!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
