Flying After Surgery...

Recommended Posts

My Brother is getting married, last minute exactly a month after my surgery. So my surgery is on the 15th of November and he is getting married on December 15th. I plan to fly at this point, he is in CA and I am in South TX. Will this be enough time to fly? Havent talked to my surgeon yet but will. Thanks for your help!

I flew home from surgery all by myself 3 days post-op so YES t can be done. However you may be feeling kinda crappy so I would make alternative plans if possible. Wish you luck friend!

I am not sure about the flying, but you will need to prepare ahead of time for your meals. Depending on your dr's program, you may still be on liquids at that time or just beginning to be on solids. I would talk with my dr, if I were you so that you can be ready to go and enjoy that wedding!

A month out from surgery you will be fine. I flew from Mexico on day 5 after surgery, no problems. By this point you will know what you will be eating and have a routine down. No worries!! Have fun.

I'm no expert, but I think it should be safe. People fly back from Mexico post-op everyday. They are like 4 days post op. Hope this helps to reassure you.

I traveled for business 3 weeks post-op. my surgeon just recommended to make sure I was moving/flexing my legs every once in a while to avoid blood clots. Biggest obstacles were probably figuring out how to bring Protein drinks and still carry on baggage (I just brought powder instead of pre-mix), lifting my suitcase into the overhead bin and holding my juice for the entire flight since the tray table won't go down all the way (still do big but the seatbelt fit!) and i was sip sip sipping :-)

Congrats on your surgery date, you'll do great!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
