becksnky 25 Posted November 8, 2012 I am age 56 with a BMI of 38. I am ready to have my sleeve in about a month. I have been reading alot where there are alot of stalls and I am worried that I may not be able to lose much of my weight. I, like many of you, have always felt like I don't eat that much and my metabolism is slow anyway. And especially now that I am older. I have been on the high Protein preop diet and even now, the weight isn't melting off, I have lost about 10 lbs and seem to be stuck there. Anyone else been here or feel this way? I almost am thinking I won't lose enough weight to even have the sleeve, will it be worth it? I am self pay and plan to go to Mexico.
Eat That Frog 53 Posted November 8, 2012 I had surgery 1 month before my 55th birthday and feel like I am doing OK. I started my pre-op diet on the first of September at 255, had surgery 9/10 and am currently at 221. I have not exercised other than a little bit of walking, although I do plan to start at the gym when I return from vacation. The main reason I decided to have the surgery was due to osteo-arthritis in my knees and diabetes. I was at the point where every step I took hurt and I couldn't imagine spending the rest of my life dealing with the pain and limitations. I wish I had done this years ago. I was self-pay. 1 Hattie reacted to this
Queen of Crop 1,104 Posted November 8, 2012 @retakk and Eat that Frog: If you want some reassurance and inspiration, please read my blog. The three of us are so similar; about the same weight, height, BMI and age....and I had hip, knee and feet problems and I was also self-pay. I am now a year out, at goal and I logged my journey every Sunday for the past year. Retakk....until I had this surgery, I could barely lose weight on 1000 calories a day....so don't despair. I did have some plateaus; but I had lost 30 lbs before I had my first stall and then it lasted a few weeks and started coming off again. I firmly believe this tool was made for people like us. If you cannot see my signature line, then go to www.queenofcrop.com/about and start there. I think you will find a lot of information and similarities between us. Good luck and congratulations on making this positive step in your life. 1 FatFreeMe reacted to this

Bubbaloo10 55 Posted November 9, 2012 Don't fret....I was sleeved on April 16 of this year and have lost 100 lbs. You will feel so much better after even half that, and the stalls (didn't have any) are considered to be a part of the process and expected. That being said, exercise is the key to avoiding or shortening stalls. Walking the treadmill works great for me. Good luck.....
